Assignment Manager is your hub for viewing, editing, and reviewing what you’ve assigned to students.
Note: If you haven't assigned content to students, Assignment Manager displays an empty page. To learn how to create assignments or how to assign content directly to students, see Assigning Content to Students .

Assignments
To access your assignment manager, navigate to Classrooms from the Global Navigation Menu in the top left corner. This is your hub to view, edit, and review what you assign to students.
The assignment table is the core view of the manager. This sortable table displays everything assigned to students and classes. This table provides the following information:
- Assignment : The title of the assignment. This also links to the assignment document or resource.
- Class: The classroom assigned to.
- Active : Available to students now.
- Upcoming: Assigned to students for a future data.
- Past : Overdue for students.
- Type : The assignment or resource type (e.g., video, assessment, Studio board, etc.).
- Start : The date the content or assignment was assigned to students.
- Due : The date an assignment is expected to be completed. In most cases, students can still access an assignment and submit after its due date. Past-due assignments move to the Past Due tab on a student's dashboard.
- Complete : The number of students that completed the assignment out of the total number of assignees.
- Results: Once graded, the results of the assignment show here.
- Open Assignment: Displays directions and information about the assignment.
- Edit Date: Change the Start and/or Due Date.
- Edit Instructions: Displays the instructions for the assignment and allows you to edit them.
- Unassign: Cancel the assignment.
Filter Assignments
Use the Filters above the assignments to locate assignments by status, type, class assigned, and due date range. By default, assignments are filtered for all types of assignment and all classes for the last 90 days.
Checking Student Work
Once students begin to work on an assignment, an additional Dashboard icon appears in the actions dropdown. Select this button to access a screen of results for a specific assignment.
In the Results Dashboard , select the colored icons to view how students answered specific questions. Select Download Results by Question to download the results into an Excel spreadsheet. Select a student name to view specific results or to override any scores.

DE How To: Assign & Build Student Activities
So, you’ve found the perfect piece of content for your next lesson—now what?
Never fear, DE is here! Our new interactive tools help you engage students with our content by using it in creative ways with your daily lessons and assignments. Once you find a resource, be it activity, text, or interactive, you can assign it directly to students and even add context and instructions to guide them along. And students can access everything you assign right from their My DE homepage.
But if you’ve just found a compelling video to use, you’ll find even more options with the Build an Activity button . We’ve redesigned our Video Player to make it super easy to incorporate rich media into the learning experiences you design and deliver every day. From the new Video Player page, you can:
Create a Video Quiz
Create a Video Quiz by adding questions throughout the video. This is the perfect way to keep students actively engaged and check for understanding along the way, and track progress in real time. Launch Video Quizzes live or assign to students directly to complete at any time in the assignment window.

Assign a self-paced student activity.
You can also assign a self-paced student activity in the form of a . Start with the video, then add context, instructions, or a short-answer question. Assign the single slide to students from here or add more slides, resources, and context to build out your lesson.
No matter which engaging option you choose, students can easily find and access the assignment on their DE homepage, and you can check the Assignment Manager found in Classrooms for their results. You can also change due dates or unassign from here as well.
And don’t forget, every resource in Discovery Education is made for sharing! Use a unique URL to share via your learning management system (LMS), email, or other online location. Since our platform plays well with other popular edtech tools, you can easily share resources to Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams or embed them in assignments in Schoology, Canvas, Brightspace, or Infinite Campus.

How do i assign content to students.

Assigning content to students enables fast access to materials, minimises distractions and creates opportunities for tracking completion.
With Discovery Education, students can browse and navigate to content, or content can be assigned to them. Assigning content ensures that students have fast access to materials, minimises distractions and creates opportunities for tracking completion. Content can be assigned as individual resources, folders of resources or can be incorporated into Studio and assigned.
In addition to the variety of resources which can be assigned, teachers can also select who they assign resources. This provides the opportunity for differentiation within the classroom. Students can be assigned similar resources to learn the same content, but receive content on their level to meet their needs.
What students see
When a digital resource, folder of resources, or Studio board is assigned to a students, it appears on their Discovery Education My DE homepage. Assignments that are due soon are featured on their homepage or students can choose to Assignments to see all items.
On the Assignment page, students can find information about each assignment, including its name, due date , and teacher and class information in a sortable table. Students can also see each assignment’s status . Students can view completed and overdue assignments by clicking on the respective tiles at the top of the page.
Assign any resource
You can assign almost any resource from Discovery Education to student accounts. Assigning content can help differentiate pupil learning, provide follow-up to a learning topic or assist a student in exploring their interests. To assign a resource, such as a video, image, audio, etc., look for the Assign option. Depending on the location of the resource, you may see an ellipsis icon with Assign in a drop-down menu or simply an Assign button. Select Assign and assign the content to a class, classes, or to individual students.
Assign a folder of content
Content curated in a teacher’s My content folder can be assigned to students. Teachers may want to assign a folder of content to compliment a unit of study or to provide project resources. To assign a folder of content, select My content from the main Discovery Education navigation menu. Use the Actions button and select Assign and assign the folder to a class, classes, or to individual students.
Studio boards
Discovery Education content can also be curated, organized, and contextualized using Discovery Education Studio . Pupils can also respond to a prompt directly on a Studio board, or elaborate on its contents. Learn more about creating and assigning Studio boards .
Assign options
When content is assigned to students, the following options are available:
- Step 1 - name the assignment and give directions for students
- Step 2 - select the date you want content to appear in the students' accounts as well as the date for when content or work should be completed by
- Step 3 - select the class (or individual students) to which something should be assigned
- Step 4 - confirm the settings of your assignment and click okay

New Features Added to Discovery Education’s K-12 Learning Platform Gives Teachers New Ways to Engage Students with Digital Content Everyday
SILVER SPRING, MD (Tuesday, July 13, 2021) — Discovery Education today announced new features and enhancements to its award-winning K-12 learning platform . The latest Discovery Education platform combines dynamic new tools with the amazing, timely content educators have come to know and love to give all users new ways to seamlessly create exciting and engaging learning activities each day. A new, interactive Quiz tool . The platform’s new Quiz tool provides multiple ways for teachers to promote active learning in the classroom and track student progress in real-time. Various Quiz types include:
- Ask Live Quiz. Through Live Quiz, teachers can now spark lively classroom discussions by asking students questions live through virtual meeting solutions, like Zoom, Google Hangouts, and Microsoft Teams
- Standard Quiz. With Standard Quiz, teachers can check for understanding and student readiness through a range of question formats, from polling to open-end and multiple-choice to image annotation.
- Video-Based Quiz. Video-Based Quiz combines video from Discovery Education’s rich vault of high-quality content and embedded questions on the video viewing timeline to create highly engaging interactive learning experiences.
In all modes, Quiz results display in real-time, empowering educators to gauge participation and correct responses, offer just-in-time feedback, and identify remediation needs.
Teacher and student-created activities and presentations are easier than ever with the improved Studio tool. Studio, Discovery Education’s latest collaboration and presentation tool, serves as educators’ creative outlet to imagine and practice new activities. As Studio and Discovery Education’s world-class content are part of a unified system, creating interactive and media-rich instructional activities just became even simpler and more straightforward than ever. With Studio, educators can:
- Use new Activity Templates based on Discovery Education’s SOS Instructional Strategies —the creative, research-based instructional strategies created by teachers for teachers —to create lively presentations that engage students in daily instruction.
- Give students the opportunity to share their knowledge in creative ways through their own presentation boards and slideshows.
- Collaborate with students in real-time within the confines of a safe and secure environment no matter where the classroom is.
- Promote literacy, accessibility, and comprehension for all learners with the embedded Microsoft Immersive Reader Tool.
In addition, more than 1500 ready-to-use instructional activities for all subjects are available through the Discovery Education platform. Teachers can assign them to students as-is, edit and personalize these lessons within Studio, use the integrated Activity Builds to quickly build their own dynamic lessons, or start with a blank slate and create their own custom lessons from scratch.
Tighter integrations with Learning Management Systems. Deeper Learning Tools Interoperability with Canvas, Schoology, D2L, Infinite Campus improve the ability to quickly search for resources in the Discovery Education platform and share them through Learning Management Systems. In addition, the platform meshes easily with Google and Microsoft Team, making it simple to share resources with students in assignments, questions, announcements, and materials.
New ways to easily log in to the Discovery Education platform. Students can now use QR codes for quick student access, no matter their sign-in method or LMS. Administrators can bulk-issue these codes at the school level or teachers can issue them for their own classrooms. Educators and students can also do a search by school name or put in their username to allow all to log in from any location or preference.
A completely redesigned Video Player . The new Discovery Education video player not only matches the platform’s lighter, redesigned look and feel, but it also makes it easy for teachers to incorporate rich media into the learning experiences they design and deliver every day. From the new Video Player page, teachers can:
- Build interactive video quizzes or slideshow activities in a few simple steps.
- Assign videos directly to students and add context and instructions.
- Share videos with students and colleagues using a simple link.
- Reach all learners with embedded language and accessibility supports.
- Find supporting resources and content like images, interactives, and audio.
Together, these new features and enhancements support the creation of interactive learning experiences that spark curiosity, make classroom activities livelier and engaging, and provide the literacy and language supports that give every student the opportunity to have their “light bulb” moment.
