Pizza Movie Review (Akshay Akkineni, 2014)
Have you ever sat down, watched a movie, and then by the end asked yourself “what exactly was that?” That’s how I felt about Akshay Akkineni’s horror suspense Pizza, but there were a few more expletives in my inner monologue. To be honest I found this one on Netflix and thought the premise sounded interesting enough; a horror film about a pizza delivery guy who encounters ghosts and other spooky stuff at a standard drop off. What I didn’t realize is that this is a Bollywood film, and the first one of its kind that I’ve ever seen. I’ve always had a genuine curiosity and I guess Pizza was as good a place as any to start. Does this horror film have what it takes to win over international audiences? Unfortunately I don’t think so; it’s not that I didn’t like it rather the format was a bit odd for me which made the story less interesting overall.
Pizza, as I mentioned earlier, is a horror film that centers around a delivery boy. Our protagonist Kunal is happy in life with his girlfriend Nikita and has big plans to move up in the business to manager one day. His only friends work at the same pie parlor, and he spends his carefree days delivery pizzas, joking with his buddies, and teasing his girlfriend. His life changes forever when he learns that he’s soon to be a father. Kunal doesn’t take the news too well and storms out. He sees the error of his ways and returns to make things up to his expecting girlfriend. Later on Kunal meets his boss’ wife who seems possessed by a demon of sorts, and afterwards he sets out to deliver food to a dark and foreboding house. When he enters he finds that door locks behind him, all of the lights turn out, and the woman who appeared before him earlier is gone. He’s locked in and must find a way out of this haunted house because every minute spent here puts him in danger.
Kunal is literally trapped in the home and the phone keeps ringing and it’s either his friends or Nikita on the other line. Thing is, they’re not calling him and instead tried reaching the police. Neither he nor they can explain this phenomenon. A strange man shows up at the door accusing Kunal of having relations with his wife, but even he cannot get it to budge. To make matters worse a little ghost of a girl is following our would be hero around the house calling him dad, and then shapeshifting into flesh eating zombies. Eventually his boss frees him from the home, but Kunal soon finds out that Nikita has gone missing. It turns out that she is now trapped in the haunted house and it’s up to Kunal and friends to save her. The possessed wife of his boss clearly has something to do with it and so he starts his investigation there before returning to the scene of the crime.
I feel like this wasn’t a horror movie that was very focused on the genre. It seemed to be focused more on the main character and his relationships than on anything remotely scary. The haunted house actually seemed more like a tool to push our reluctant hero into some self discovery. Personally I couldn’t be bothered to care that much about him, Nikita, or their relationship. The supporting characters are even less interesting and they each take up too much room in the story for my liking. The pacing feels very off with an immensely slow beginning which leads to only a little of the haunted house before slowing back down again. The premise behind Pizza had the potential for so much more, but it squanders this on trying to build up the dramatic elements which does it absolutely no favors. The big plot twist ruins what was already an uninteresting story.
If there’s one thing Pizza has going for it then it’s the visuals. Every scene outside of the haunted house is vibrant and colorful to the point where it seems they intentionally put props in to brighten things up. The use of yellow hues and lights is really eye catching. Inside the haunted mansion everything is dreary, and while I found it boring and contrived visually, this helps to set up a major contrast between it and the rest of the film. It also has a fair amount of style with an electronic/rock soundtrack, and an entirely animated opening sequence set to the tune of the weirdest song I’ve ever heard. It’s a hip hop song about pizza, as in, the food. It’s fun and bouncy, but hardly fits with the rest of the movie thematically. I wish the rest of the film was as clever or off the wall as this sequence.

Oven Fresh Hell: The Relationship Between Pizza and Horror
Little compares to the combination of pizza and a horror movie.
Whether a Friday night in or a Saturday sleepover, every weekend begs the addition of ‘za and a fright flick. A throwback to unsupervised youth on a Blockbuster night, staying up too late, and consuming junk food. The resulting nightmares would traumatize adolescents and influence horror media forever.
Reminding the audience that nothing is sacred in scary movies, not even your slice.
Table of Contents
Sometimes You Eat the Pizza, Sometimes the Pizza Eats You
Rivalries of regional styles rage on to this day. But whether you favor Chicago or New York, even bad pizza is still pizza. The worst pizza in the universe is Pizza The Hutt . Intergalactic mobster that drives the entire plot of Space Balls.
Disgusting and delicious, he directly inspired the animated villain Pizza Face from the 2012 TMNT series. Hypnotizing the hungry into his parlor to eat as calzones. Simultaneously unveiling the vulnerability of the voracious.
The original Ninja Turtle animated series also gave us Pizza Monsters from Dimension X. Almost gremlin-like, they hatch from meatball shaped eggs when heated up. Just add water so that they grow into yellow Xenomorphs that rearrange positions in the food chain.
The cannibal slasher Offerings has an escaped psycho courting a teen with body parts. Beginning with a stack of “sausage” pizzas on her doorstep, nobody notices the missing family dog.
Freddy Krueger has an appetite for soul food in Nightmare on Elm Street 4 . On a dream date in a diner, the meatball toppings resemble victims screaming for mercy. Every time Freddy eats a soul, he gains another slimy mole. The moment in the franchise when fans notice how much Krueger’s skin resembles pizza.
You are what you eat in House IV , where Kane Hodder makes an uncredited cameo as The Human Pizza.
House IV (1992)
Singing delivery has everyone humming until they open the box to a grinning pie. Ruining dinner by spewing gory marinara and attacking with cheese tentacles. But if the food doesn’t kill ya, the service will.
Little Pizza Shop of Horrors
Urban legends of haunted red sauce joints exist all over, possibly as continuations of the old trope of fronts for the mob. In the Killer Pizza horror novel series by Greg Taylor, the titular business is a front for a monster hunting organization.
It’s like the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense was slinging slices on the side. Not necessarily needing a cover to bring the paranormal into your personal pan, some restaurants simply make unfortunate decisions regarding location.
The pizza horror comedy Slice is centered around Perfect Pizza Place, an eatery built on top of a portal to Hell. Inciting more than bad Yelp reviews, a coven of witches wreak havoc to gain access. But a fate much worse than bad service is having an in-house monstrosity dining on you. Namely, the horrific animatronics of pizza chain restaurants. Any nostalgic attendee of family fun in its heyday were captivated and terrorized by the robots.
Popular horror game series Five Nights at Freddy’s brought these childhood fears to life with machines moving freely at night, possessed by vengeful spirits that punish all trespassers. In the same vein, 2018’s Huluween film festival featured the pizza horror short, The Hug . Pandory the Panda is a lone robot in his restaurant and needs to feed between performances. Also being a demon, Pandory prefers children.
— FOUNDATIONS OF HORROR —
This short would give way to the 2021 Nicholas Cage pizza horror film, Willy’s Wonderland . A serial killer cult inhabits the animatronic characters and demands human sacrifice. This redefines the notion of businesses struggling to keep customers. However, ordering to-go isn’t always the safer bet, especially if you’re making the deliveries.
Pizza is Gonna Send Out For You
Slinging pizza is a respectable hustle but with considerable risk involved. These liminal laborers walk between worlds and enter unknown situations repeatedly in a single night. Adventurous drivers might take a chance outside of their delivery zone like in Satanic Panic , a pizza horror movie featuring a delivery girl served up as a sacrifice to Baphomet at the hands of Satanist glitterati.
Satanic Panic (2019)
In Slumber Party Massacre , the delivery boy is dead on arrival at a slashing in progress. Awaiting help, the teens help themselves to the cold pizza lying next to his corpse. The perfect comfort food to stress eat when stalked by a homicidal maniac.
In the Indian horror movie, Pizza , the supernatural orders out for the pizza guy, Michael. Trapped in a haunted bungalow looping its trauma, this pie is extra bloody with ketchup and murder. The pizza profession requires grit as behind each door lies a potential occupational hazard. A single order could be a family of zombies craving deep dish brains, like in Dance of The Dead . Jimmy makes his last delivery of the night and realizes he’s on the menu.
Pizza in Horror Movies as a Subtrope
What makes pizza horror truly terrifying is that it’s too real. Whether you’re an employee or a customer, pizza is a bullseye for the weird. We lower our defenses when taking in sustenance. Fueling that long run from the chainsaw man wanting to eat you. Consider how you invite chaos into your life every time you grab a slice.
And always remember to tip.

I thought I was watching Pizza (2012). I was already 40 Minutes in, when I realized I was watching the remake Pizza (2014). so, I was to far in to stop. Anyway, there where some scary scenes in the house but most of the film seemed to incoherent. But I liked the ending even if it reminded me of 90s cartoons.

You know what? It's... well, the concept is kind of interesting I guess. Yeah that's kind of all I've got. It's at least kind of novel that there are moments where the movie turns into a straight-up "dramedy" between it's "horror" scenes.
An extra half-star just for being ballsy enough to go with the whole fucking pizza angle.

Gak ada yang istimewa banget sih dari film thriller yang pakai akal-akalan memanipulasi penontonnya. Twisted plot.
Kunal seorang pengantar pizza. Hidupnya masih susah. Istrinya, Nikita, penulis yang belum sukses. Kemudian Nikita hamil, tapi Kunal ingin agar Nikita menggugurkan saja bayinya. Belum punya duit.

Pizza 3 Movie Review: Even the cheap thrills can't salvage this letdown installment
Barring a handful of examples, film franchises as a concept haven't yet made great inroads in Tamil cinema. One of the successes in this world of franchises is the Pizza franchise that has been rolling out installments at a regular frequency. All three parts of the horror franchise have been helmed by debutants.
The first part (2012) saw the then debutant Karthik Subbaraj bring in a fresh voice of storytelling that used horror only as a plot device to delectably tuck in a neat little surprise in the final act. 11 years later, comes Pizza 3, again helmed by a debutant, only to prove that a legacy isn’t just enough. A well-fleshed-out and well-thought story that can actually give you chills running from its writing and not relying on mere sound effects is more important.
Gone are those days when jump scares, haunted mansions and dense white makeup were enough to give us cheap thrills. It was more important to deliver an actual tale of dread rather than resorting to just jump scares. Interestingly, the first two films of the Pizza franchise used a con angle to subvert the cliches of the genre. Unfortunately, Pizza 3: The Mummy, while trying to play up the horror emotion, fails to understand its study on the audience, who has seen enough of white make-up and mystery figures lurking around.
As typical of any horror film, Pizza 3 has two stories running, crossing paths at one given time. There is a restauranteur Nalan (Ashwin Kakamanu), whose personal problems become multifold when the paranormal gets involved. A sample of this would be a particular dessert that strangely keeps appearing in the kitchen. He also has a paranormal investigator girlfriend Kayal (Pavithra Marimuthu), who barely has anything to do in the story.
On the other hand, a series of murders that strangely gets connected to our hero. Amid all this, there is a 700-year-old cursed mummy doll. Like how we saw a sample of aghast in the opening credits in cult films like Ring or Urban Legend, Pizza 3 too has one. But it makes you so confused that you nearly forget to make any sense of it as the credits roll. In addition to this, Pizza 3 also tries to take itself too seriously that it misses having fun, which is something that Pizza immensely had. Under the guise of tugging your emotional strings, the film elaborates on a back story that might trigger your memories regarding one specific violence that took place in Chennai a few years. But its execution and usage as an induction to the horror do not work out naturally. In its ambitious idea to highlight the apathy of the violence, the film forgets to connect its dots. If the ghosts are as mighty to avenge the perpetrators, why is there an involvement of our protagonist, whose connection to their story hangs in there by a thread? But defying such logic, Pizza 3 tries to weave around a tale of convolution and hauntings that are of no use.
Pizza 3 might have some of its fear moments and there are plenty of jump scares, but its filmmaking is so archaic that it still needs scenes like TV shows debating the presence of ghosts, to make the audience feel they are watching a ghost story. Adding to the woes is the third act which fails miserably and is rushed to only complete the film. While Ashwin tries his best to save this sinking ship, it’s only in parts he is able to do so, as the story becomes a steady downward slope. With neither evident ambition nor exemplary craft, Pizza 3 becomes a letdown to the franchise.

A Slice of Hollywood: 20 Iconic Pizza Scenes in Movies
Table of Contents
From evoking laughter in comedic scenes to creating tension in dramatic moments, pizza has been a part of some of the most memorable scenes in film history. It has served as a comforting symbol of home and familiarity, a tool for exploration and discovery, and even a driving force in narratives.
This article explores 20 iconic movie pizza scenes, showcasing the indelible mark this beloved dish has left on the silver screen. These scenes, spanning various genres from comedy to horror, underscore pizza’s multifaceted roles in our cinematic experiences.
20 Pizza Movie Scenes
Wayne’s world (1992)..
Wayne Campbell, played by Mike Myers, is seen enjoying a slice of Pizza Hut pizza. However, it’s not just a casual pizza-eating scene. Wayne conspicuously holds the pizza box to ensure the logo is perfectly angled toward the camera, making it blatant product placement. He even goes as far as to say, “Contract or no, I will not bow to any sponsor,” all while showcasing the Pizza Hut logo prominently.
This scene is a hilarious critique of the often blatant product placements in films, making it one of the most iconic moments in the movie. It’s a perfect example of the film’s self-aware humor and irreverent tone.
Saturday Night Fever (1977).
John Travolta’s character, Tony Manero, struts down the streets of his neighborhood to the beat of the Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive,” making his way to Lenny’s Pizza. When he arrives, Tony orders two slices of pizza, but instead of eating them separately, he stacks them on top of each other to create a ‘double-decker’ slice. As he continues his charismatic strut down the street, casually eating his pizza and soaking in the city’s rhythm, we get a vivid introduction to his character.
This scene, with its fusion of music, dance, and a unique approach to eating pizza, not only sets the tone for the rest of the film but creates a memorable movie moment.
Back to the Future Part II (1989).
One of the iconic scenes involves a pizza from Pizza Hut but with a unique twist. The McFly family utilizes a Black & Decker hydrator to cook a dehydrated pizza, turning it from a small, cookie-sized item into a piping hot, full-sized pizza in a matter of seconds.
Spaceballs (1987).
Spaceballs features Pizza the Hutt, a play on Star Wars Jabba the Hutt. Pizza the Hutt is a grotesque, pizza-like creature covered in cheese and pepperoni. The character is a visual gag and a clever commentary on the commercialization of food.
In one memorable scene, Pizza the Hutt’s henchman, Vinnie, is seen eating a piece of his boss when Pizza gets stuck in his limo. The scene is humorous and a little stomach-churning, making it a standout moment in the film.
The use of actual cheese for Pizza the Hutt’s costume adds to the absurdity and the memorable nature of this character.
Eat, Pray, Love (2010).
Julia Roberts’ character, Elizabeth Gilbert, savors a pizza Margherita from Naples. The scene beautifully captures the authentic Italian pizza experience, making viewers yearn for a taste.
Mystic Pizza (1988).
In Julia Roberts’ first role, she plays a pizzeria waitress in a small town. The film revolves around the lives and loves of the pizzeria’s staff, with pizza as a central motif.
The Net (1995).
Sandra Bullock’s character, Angela Bennett, showcases the then-novel concept of ordering a pizza online. This scene was a glimpse into the future of food delivery.
Do The Right Thing (1989).

Nightmare on Elm Street 4.
Freddy torments one of his victims, Rick, with a pizza topped with ‘soul meatballs.’ These meatballs are the trapped faces of Freddy’s previous victims, screaming for help. With his razor-sharp claws, Freddy picks up one of the faces and eats it, much to Rick’s horror. This scene is a gruesome play on the beloved dish, turning an ordinary pizza into a tool of terror.
Toy Story 2 (1999).
Lightyear, Mr. Potato Head, Slinky Dog, Rex, and Hamm embark on a rescue mission to save Woody, who has been mistakenly sold to a toy collector. Their mode of transportation? A Pizza Planet delivery truck. This Pizza Planet truck, a recurring element in the Toy Story franchise, infuses the high-stakes rescue mission with humor and nostalgia. In their determination, the toys navigate the manual transmission and weave through traffic, providing a thrilling and humorous sequence that underscores their camaraderie and determination. This scene is a testament to the film’s ability to blend adventure, humor, and heart.
Spider-Man 2 (2004).
Tobey Maguire’s character, Peter Parker, grapples with balancing his responsibilities as Spider-Man with his everyday life. A significant scene in the film involves Peter delivering pizzas for Joe’s Pizza. Dressed in his Spider-Man suit, he swings through the skyscrapers of New York City, attempting to deliver the pizzas within the 29-minute guarantee. However, his superhero duties interfere, causing him to deliver the pizzas late, which results in his dismissal. This scene adds a layer of realism to the superhero narrative, showing that even superheroes have to deal with everyday problems and responsibilities.
Deadpool (2016).
Before becoming Deadpool, Wade Wilson targets a pizza delivery boy for stalking a girl. The scene is a humorous introduction to the character’s unconventional justice.
Along Came Polly (2004).
One of the film’s most memorable scenes is in a bowling alley where Reuben and Polly enjoy a casual date. They order a pizza, but Reuben’s best friend, Sandy Lyle, played by Philip Seymour Hoffman, adds some extra grease to his slice. He runs his slice along the bowling alley’s return ball track, collecting the machine’s oil on his pizza. He then proceeds to eat the slice, much to Reuben’s disgust and the audience’s amusement.
Home Alone (1990).
Kevin McCallister being home alone, wants to enjoy a cheese pizza all by himself, something he couldn’t do when his family was around. However, as a young boy, he must figure out how to get the pizza without revealing that he’s home alone. He uses a classic gangster film, “Angels with Filthy Souls,” to trick the pizza delivery guy into thinking there’s an adult at home. He plays a scene from the movie where a gangster fires his Tommy gun, which scares the delivery guy away, leaving the pizza.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990).
One memorable scene occurs when the turtles order a pizza at their sewer hideout. The delivery boy arrives, puzzled about delivering a pizza to a manhole.
Meanwhile, the turtles, waiting below, count down to the promised delivery time. As soon as the clock ticks over, they demand the pizza, claiming it’s late and thus should be free. The delivery boy reluctantly hands the pizza, and the turtles enjoy their victory and favorite food. This scene is a humorous highlight, showcasing the turtles’ cheeky personalities and love for pizza, a recurring theme throughout the franchise.
Just Go With It (2011).
Adam Sandler’s character, Danny, negotiates with two precocious youngsters at Pizza Hut to convince them to be his pretend children. The scene is a humorous take on family dynamics and the lengths one would go to for love.
Set It Up (2018).
Harper and Charlie, two overworked assistants, share a pizza while drunkenly climbing a fire escape. The scene marks a turning point in their relationship as they realize they fall for each other.
Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011).
Ryan Gosling’s character, Jacob, eating pizza in slow motion is arguably the hottest moment in the film. The scene is a testament to Gosling’s charm and the film’s playful tone.
Home Alone 2, Lost in New York (1992).
One of the most memorable scenes in the movie involves Kevin enjoying a cheese pizza all by himself, but not in an ordinary setting. He’s in the back of a luxurious limousine, driving through the bustling streets of New York City. As he gazes out at the city’s Christmas lights, he takes a bite of the large, cheesy pizza slice, a satisfied grin on his face.
Rough Night (2017).
Kate McKinnon and Jillian Bell’s characters stress-eat a pizza while trying to fix their bachelorette party gone wrong. The scene is a humorous take on the therapeutic qualities of pizza during stressful times.
Seeing pizza in a movie scene is always a delight. It’s a familiar sight that brings a smile to our faces. Whether it’s a character casually enjoying a slice or a dramatic pizza delivery scene, these moments add a touch of realism and fun to the movie. So, enjoy the moment next time you spot a pizza in a movie scene.

Get Ready to Be Scared Sick Because This ‘Horror Movie of the Year’ Is So Terrifying It's Making Viewers Queasy, And I Can Confirm
Think you have what it takes to watch without tossing your cookies?
In the world of great horror movies , making audience members lose their lunch, which was the case with 2022’s Terrifer 2 , seems to be a badge of honor. The latest movie that is allegedly making viewers queasy is the prequel The First Omen . Usually, I'd approach such claims skeptically. But having watched this chilling flick myself, I can attest to its intensity. Multiple scenes even made me, a seasoned horror hound, feel my stomach churn. Believe the hype— The First Omen might just be the horror movie of the year.
A prequel to Richard Donner’s 1976 classic, The First Omen has been generating buzz for several reasons, most notably for its intense violence. The film's gruesome birth scene was so graphic that it almost received an NC-17 rating . According to UNILAD , this particular scene has been making viewers give the technicolor yawn. Ed Potton, from The Times , hilariously wrote:
As for the graphic birth scenes, let’s just say that one of these is definitely not born every minute. This is Call the Midwife directed by Satan.
Having seen the movie, I can attest that the birth scene is incredibly intense. Yet, according to director Arkasha Stevenson in an interview with CinemaBlend's Jeff McCobb, this isn’t even the most shocking part of the film . How about the 20-foot incubus phallus? It's easy to miss the demon dong amid the constant barrage of disturbing visuals that fill the screen every few minutes. I cannot emphasize enough how exceptional The First Omen is—not only is it one of the standout horror movies of the year, but it's also one of the finest prequels ever made, strongly justifying the case for making prequels in the first place.
The prequel horror flick has garnered an impressive 80% rating from 158 critics on Rotten Tomatoes , and it truly deserves it. So far, it has earned $35 million globally on a reported budget of $30 million. I'm hopeful these numbers will continue to rise because I would personally love to see more from this universe and this director, especially after hearing her exciting ideas for a potential sequel .
The First Omen marks a significant return for The Omen franchise, which had been quiet since the poorly received 2006 remake. It's been nearly two decades since the chilling tales of Damien Thorn, Satan’s child, have graced the screen. This time, director Arkasha Stevenson brings a fresh twist that might just have even seasoned horror buffs pitching a pavement pizza. Her knack for crafting squirm-inducing scenes has added much-needed vitality to the series. Diverging from earlier sequels that either followed Damien’s unnerving lifecycle or barely touched on him, Stevenson's installment explores the origins of Damien, unveiling aspects of his story that fans didn't even know they were missing. It looks like the future of this devilish series might just be wickedly bright.
If you’re in the mood for a film that could cause a tummy tantrum, The First Omen is now terrifying theatergoers everywhere. Or, for a nostalgic chill, you can revisit its 1970s predecessor with a Hulu subscription .
Be sure to check out our 2024 movie schedule to see what other upcoming horror movies are coming to a theater near you and might have you praying to the porcelain god.

Internet-famous Dave Portnoy ranked 5 metro Phoenix pizzerias 'forgettable' to 'perfect'
Founder and owner of Barstool Sports, Dave Portnoy, was in the Valley for the Final Four. While in town, he stopped by five local restaurants to conduct his social media pizza reviews.
Known for his internet personality, Portnoy is not only a part of the BFFs podcast with influencers Josh Richards and Brianna LaPaglia, he is also popular for his pizza reviews for which his catchphrase is, “One bite, everybody knows the rules” as he makes stops at various pizza shops across the country and gives them a rating from 1-10 on a slice of their plain cheese. Portnoy is hard to please. He rarely, if ever, hands out numbers ranking higher than 9.
Given that, he handed out pretty high ratings to five metro Phoenix pizzerias during his 2024 visit.
Dave Portnoy has reviewed pizza in Arizona before
This isn’t the first time Portnoy has reviewed pizza spots in the Valley, let alone Arizona. When he was here for the Super Bowl he visited some local spots in Phoenix and Tucson.
He posted a review of the famous Pizzeria Bianco on Feb. 9, 2023. He said the pizza was “impossible to get,” he showed up at 10:30 a.m. and the spot already had a line out the door with an hour and a half wait, all before the 11 a.m. open.
Portnoy said you can’t get the pizza to go so you have to show up and that’s why he was “doing this one a little bit differently.”
He described the pizza as having a “good undercarriage” and an “outrageous crisp.” He said you could taste how fresh it is and mentioned that organic, locally sourced ingredients are used. Portnoy rated the spot a 7.3.
On Jan. 11, 2023, he tried Squared Up Pizza in Tucson which he gave the Sicilian-style square pizza a 7.6 .
“This is a good quality, solid Sicilian square slice,” Portnoy said.
He gave the round pie a 7.9 , calling it “crisp, excellent.”
Portnoy reviewed Villa Della Slice Shop on Jan. 10, 2023, and gave it a 7.9 .
“Has big time taste, great sauce, great flavor,” Portnoy said. “I need a little more crunch I think to put me in the 8s with this.”
Here's how he ranked five local pizzerias on his most recent visit.
Pizza On 40th got a 7.1
Portnoy stopped by Pizza On 40th located at 937 E. Indian School Road in Phoenix. He left a review through an Instagram video posted on Thursday, April 11.
"Looked good, that's a pretty New York-style thing, good little bubbles, I like bubble trouble," Portnoy said. "Thin, oh pretty good crisp. Scottsdale it's not the greatest pizza city, but it's not the worst. Good undercarriage."
He called the pizza "good-ish" rating it a 7.1. He said it was a very basic New York style, he wouldn't blink or look back for it. If it was in the streets of New York it would be an "average," "forgettable," "normal" pizza.
Pizza By Napoli scored 7.2
Portnoy's latest stop on his pizza tour throughout the Valley, posted in a video on his Instagram @stoolpresidente on Tuesday, April 16, included Pizza by Napoli , located at 3425 W. Thunderbird Road in Phoenix.
Portnoy said he decided to visit after he got a DM from the shop owner's daughter about a year ago and then again recently, asking him to come and leave a review.
"Looks like a football pie, pretty good. A little doughy ... would I make a trip an hour-and-a-half to eat it? No. Would I come here because this girl wants her dad and her family business to thrive so much and they've been here 35 years? Absolutely."
He gave them a 7.2 rating and said "sometimes it's more than pizza, it's people more than the pizza."
Lamp Pizzeria earned a 7.6
Portnoy said he waited about 2 hours to get a pizza at Lamp Pizzeria , which people warned him about. Located at 8900 E. Pinnacle Peak Road in Scottsdale, the review was posted on Instagram on Monday, April 15.
He said the pizza was "really great" but for him woodfire is not his favorite style. He gave the spot 7.6, which he said was a "monster score for this style of pizza." Portnoy said the taste was "really spectacular" and you could tell the oils, sauces and everything were super fresh.
"We got some good pizza in Scottsdale today," Portnoy said.
He said it was worth the two hour wait for the experience.
Andiamo Pizzeria in Scottsdale landed an 8.2
In a video posted on TikTok and Instagram on Thursday, April 11, Portnoy was filmed visiting Andiamo Pizzeria located on 7132 E. Becker Lane in Scottsdale.
According to their website, Andiamo started when two traveling pizza aficionados met in Phoenix.
“Fueled by a passion for pie that spans New York’s bustling streets, California’s laid-back pizza joints, the soulful authenticity of Italy, and beyond, we’ve crafted a menu that’s a journey in every bite,” the website states.
Portnoy was with his dog Miss Peaches when he was reviewing the joint.
“That looks like good, East Coast big pizza, look how thin that is,” he said. “Peaches, we’re about to change Andiamo’s lives here”
He compared the pizza to a “thin, perfect, Joe’s from New York.”
He gave the spot an 8.2 rating and claimed it was “the best in AZ” in his caption of the video. Portnoy even gave his dog a bite to try.
Trevor’s Liquor got an 8.3
Posted on TikTok and Instagram on Saturday, April 13, Portnoy was shown visiting Trevor’s Liquor at 3601 E. Indian School Road in Scottsdale.
He was doing a High Noon meet-and-greet at the location when he was told to try one of their pizzas.
“This thing’s light so I think it’s going to be good … it looks good, really good undercarriage,” Portnoy said.
He said he was stunned by the pizza and didn’t realize the liquor store also had a pizza shop next door with a small menu of salads and sandwiches as well.
Trevor's Liquor has three metro Phoenix location. The one at 7000 E. Mayo Boulevard in Phoenix also sells pizza, but the store at 7340 E. McDowell Road in Scottsdale does not.
“Well now I’m f-----," Portnoy said. “Because we gave an 8.2 to Andiamo this morning and I said it’s the best pizza in Phoenix. This is the best pizza in Scottsdale.”
He gave Trevor’s an 8.3, “closer to an 8.4, than an 8.3,” he said.
Portnoy asked if this is how the pizza comes out all of the time. To which one of the employees responded 90% of the time, every time.
“Are you guys packed for pizza?” he asked. “You’re going to be busy like you haven’t seen before."
