Employee tenure in the past always had an upward trend, with the average employee staying at the company for 10+ years. However, in the past decade, the trend has reversed, with some employees lasting only a few months, and others leaving abruptly after many years.

Step 2: Show why it matters As the perceived loyalty of their employees has long been a source of pride for the company, they employed an outside consultant firm to see why there was so much turnover. The firm focused on the new hires, concluding that a rival shoe company located in the next town offered higher hourly wages and better “perks”, such as pizza parties. They claimed this was what was leading employees to switch. However, to gain a fuller understanding of why the turnover persists even after the consultant study, in-depth qualitative research focused on long-term employees is also needed. If you’re new to academic research, you’re bound to encounter the concept of a “ research problem ” or “ problem statement ” fairly early in your learning journey. Having a good research problem is essential, as it provides a foundation for developing high-quality research, from relatively small research papers to a full-length PhD dissertations and theses.

In this post, we’ll unpack what a research problem is and how it’s related to a problem statement . We’ll also share some examples and provide a step-by-step process you can follow to identify and evaluate study-worthy research problems for your own project.

A research problem is, at the simplest level, the core issue that a study will try to solve or (at least) examine. In other words, it’s an explicit declaration about the problem that your dissertation, thesis or research paper will address. More technically, it identifies the research gap that the study will attempt to fill (more on that later).

Let’s look at an example to make the research problem a little more tangible.

To justify a hypothetical study, you might argue that there’s currently a lack of research regarding the challenges experienced by first-generation college students when writing their dissertations [ PROBLEM ] . As a result, these students struggle to successfully complete their dissertations, leading to higher-than-average dropout rates [ CONSEQUENCE ]. Therefore, your study will aim to address this lack of research – i.e., this research problem [ SOLUTION ].

A research problem can be theoretical in nature, focusing on an area of academic research that is lacking in some way. Alternatively, a research problem can be more applied in nature, focused on finding a practical solution to an established problem within an industry or an organisation. In other words, theoretical research problems are motivated by the desire to grow the overall body of knowledge , while applied research problems are motivated by the need to find practical solutions to current real-world problems (such as the one in the example above).

As you can probably see, the research problem acts as the driving force behind any study , as it directly shapes the research aims, objectives and research questions , as well as the research approach. Therefore, it’s really important to develop a very clearly articulated research problem before you even start your research proposal . A vague research problem will lead to unfocused, potentially conflicting research aims, objectives and research questions .

What is a research problem statement?

As the name suggests, a problem statement (within a research context, at least) is an explicit statement that clearly and concisely articulates the specific research problem your study will address. While your research problem can span over multiple paragraphs, your problem statement should be brief , ideally no longer than one paragraph . Importantly, it must clearly state what the problem is (whether theoretical or practical in nature) and how the study will address it.

Here’s an example of a statement of the problem in a research context:

Rural communities across Ghana lack access to clean water, leading to high rates of waterborne illnesses and infant mortality. Despite this, there is little research investigating the effectiveness of community-led water supply projects within the Ghanaian context. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effectiveness of such projects in improving access to clean water and reducing rates of waterborne illnesses in these communities.

As you can see, this problem statement clearly and concisely identifies the issue that needs to be addressed (i.e., a lack of research regarding the effectiveness of community-led water supply projects) and the research question that the study aims to answer (i.e., are community-led water supply projects effective in reducing waterborne illnesses?), all within one short paragraph.

Wherever there is a lack of well-established and agreed-upon academic literature , there is an opportunity for research problems to arise, since there is a paucity of (credible) knowledge. In other words, research problems are derived from research gaps . These gaps can arise from various sources, including the emergence of new frontiers or new contexts, as well as disagreements within the existing research.

Let’s look at each of these scenarios:

New frontiers – new technologies, discoveries or breakthroughs can open up entirely new frontiers where there is very little existing research, thereby creating fresh research gaps. For example, as generative AI technology became accessible to the general public in 2023, the full implications and knock-on effects of this were (or perhaps, still are) largely unknown and therefore present multiple avenues for researchers to explore.

New contexts – very often, existing research tends to be concentrated on specific contexts and geographies. Therefore, even within well-studied fields, there is often a lack of research within niche contexts. For example, just because a study finds certain results within a western context doesn’t mean that it would necessarily find the same within an eastern context. If there’s reason to believe that results may vary across these geographies, a potential research gap emerges.

Disagreements – within many areas of existing research, there are (quite naturally) conflicting views between researchers, where each side presents strong points that pull in opposing directions. In such cases, it’s still somewhat uncertain as to which viewpoint (if any) is more accurate. As a result, there is room for further research in an attempt to “settle” the debate.

How to find a research problem

Given that research problems flow from research gaps , finding a strong research problem for your research project means that you’ll need to first identify a clear research gap. Below, we’ll present a four-step process to help you find and evaluate potential research problems.

If you’ve read our other articles about finding a research topic , you’ll find the process below very familiar as the research problem is the foundation of any study . In other words, finding a research problem is much the same as finding a research topic.

Step 1 – Identify your area of interest

Naturally, the starting point is to first identify a general area of interest . Chances are you already have something in mind, but if not, have a look at past dissertations and theses within your institution to get some inspiration. These present a goldmine of information as they’ll not only give you ideas for your own research, but they’ll also help you see exactly what the norms and expectations are for these types of projects.

At this stage, you don’t need to get super specific. The objective is simply to identify a couple of potential research areas that interest you. For example, if you’re undertaking research as part of a business degree, you may be interested in social media marketing strategies for small businesses, leadership strategies for multinational companies, etc.

Depending on the type of project you’re undertaking, there may also be restrictions or requirements regarding what topic areas you’re allowed to investigate, what type of methodology you can utilise, etc. So, be sure to first familiarise yourself with your institution’s specific requirements and keep these front of mind as you explore potential research ideas.

Step 2 – Review the literature and develop a shortlist

Once you’ve decided on an area that interests you, it’s time to sink your teeth into the literature . In other words, you’ll need to familiarise yourself with the existing research regarding your interest area. Google Scholar is a good starting point for this, as you can simply enter a few keywords and quickly get a feel for what’s out there. Keep an eye out for recent literature reviews and systematic review-type journal articles, as these will provide a good overview of the current state of research.

At this stage, you don’t need to read every journal article from start to finish . A good strategy is to pay attention to the abstract, intro and conclusion , as together these provide a snapshot of the key takeaways. As you work your way through the literature, keep an eye out for what’s missing – in other words, what questions does the current research not answer adequately (or at all)? Importantly, pay attention to the section titled “ further research is needed ”, typically found towards the very end of each journal article. This section will specifically outline potential research gaps that you can explore, based on the current state of knowledge (provided the article you’re looking at is recent).

Take the time to engage with the literature and develop a big-picture understanding of the current state of knowledge. Reviewing the literature takes time and is an iterative process , but it’s an essential part of the research process, so don’t cut corners at this stage.

As you work through the review process, take note of any potential research gaps that are of interest to you. From there, develop a shortlist of potential research gaps (and resultant research problems) – ideally 3 – 5 options that interest you.

The relationship between the research problem and research gap

Step 3 – Evaluate your potential options

Once you’ve developed your shortlist, you’ll need to evaluate your options to identify a winner. There are many potential evaluation criteria that you can use, but we’ll outline three common ones here: value, practicality and personal appeal.

Value – a good research problem needs to create value when successfully addressed. Ask yourself:

  • Who will this study benefit (e.g., practitioners, researchers, academia)?
  • How will it benefit them specifically?
  • How much will it benefit them?

Practicality – a good research problem needs to be manageable in light of your resources. Ask yourself:

  • What data will I need access to?
  • What knowledge and skills will I need to undertake the analysis?
  • What equipment or software will I need to process and/or analyse the data?
  • How much time will I need?
  • What costs might I incur?

Personal appeal – a research project is a commitment, so the research problem that you choose needs to be genuinely attractive and interesting to you. Ask yourself:

  • How appealing is the prospect of solving this research problem (on a scale of 1 – 10)?
  • Why, specifically, is it attractive (or unattractive) to me?
  • Does the research align with my longer-term goals (e.g., career goals, educational path, etc)?

Depending on how many potential options you have, you may want to consider creating a spreadsheet where you numerically rate each of the options in terms of these criteria. Remember to also include any criteria specified by your institution . From there, tally up the numbers and pick a winner.

Step 4 – Craft your problem statement

Once you’ve selected your research problem, the final step is to craft a problem statement. Remember, your problem statement needs to be a concise outline of what the core issue is and how your study will address it. Aim to fit this within one paragraph – don’t waffle on. Have a look at the problem statement example we mentioned earlier if you need some inspiration.

The purpose of this study is to design and develop an Online Registration and Grade Evaluation System in advancing the Pre-Enrollment Procedure. The system can help improve student's registration, grade evaluation and record keeping system of Bulacan State University, one of the Universities in the Philippines. The system can provide online registration of students, viewing of grades through their personal account, creation of subjects and curriculum, managing of different user accounts for faculty members and students, online evaluation of grades using the subject prerequisite system and printing of evaluation certificates and grade checklist of the students. The design and implementation of computerized students’ admission system is focused at realizing an efficient computation of students’ results. These complaints arise from problems discovered in the manual system which not only include inefficiency, inaccuracy, time consumption and inconvenience but laborious and sluggish. The proposed model is focused with studentship monitoring, storing students' fundamental academic records, tracking students if there is any form of wrongdoing, and checking every certificate issued by Ghana Communication Technology University in the future to ensure that false admittance is greatly decreased. An institution cannot function without information; hence an information system is similar to the nervous system in the human body. In this project, a review of other project works was performed and analyzed, giving the same problems listed in the project. Chapter three is a systematic design on how to execute a web design for the admission portal. ER Diagram and Design model were introduced to explain the details of the admission portal. In Chapter 4, there was an implementation of the designed program. The admission portal was administered in three stages, the first stage which is the first page is the login page. The second stage is the admission requirement and the documents needed to complete the admission form and the third stage is where the admission form is downloaded. After downloading the admission form, applicants are supposed to fill them up and upload them unto the same page, including the documents required for the admission form. After that, there is a submit button to submit all documents. This program was designed using PHP and HTML for the frontend design and DJANGO for the backend design. This program will eradicate the problems that both staff and students face.

It is maintained on the daily basis of their attendance. The staffs will be provided with the separate username & password to make the student's presence. Background Of The Study

In our modern world doing impossible things is now become possible. With the help of technology, our lives become more convenient and doing things can be done so fast.

Computerization is a control system that manages, processes in industrial workplace. It reduced human errors and processing time, thus it can boost productivity and resulted into high quality of product produce. In information System, computerization is concerned about interrelating different but interdependent transactions. This can result in a system with well-integrated processes that can perform much faster and more accurate than a manual system.

Enrollment System is a good example of a computer generated process. This can lessen the workload and provides accurate information needed of the school. As a result, it will benefit not only the student but the administrations a whole.

Statement Of The Problem

Generally this study aims to create a computerized enrollment system in San Jacinto Catholic School Inc.

Specifically this study seeks to answer the following questions:

  • What are the common problems encounter during enrollment?
  • Which do you think is more efficient between computerized enrollment system and a manual enrollment? Why?
  • Which do you think is more secured between computerized enrollment system and a manual enrollment? Why?
  • Would you like to have a computerized enrollment system?
  • How will the system help the school administration?

Significance Of The Study

The system will help to facilitate hassle free enrollment, we need to develop an computerized enrollment system to protect data from being burned out in case of natural disasters like fire, flash floods and typhoons. Easy access of every parents or students to the office thru calling in cellphone for their data. This study would serve as a handy reference for the other researchers who would embark on a similar study in the future especially on contain aspects not derived into by the present study. It will help to lessen their work and help them also to have a fast way of enrolling students as well as in securing student information.

The one who will be benefited in this study is the school especially the students and teachers, it will help create a hassle free enrollment.

The main focus of this study is to manage student’s records of San Jacinto Catholic School. You can edit student’s records, you can enroll new student, and you can delete his or her records in just one click. The school bill is not included in this study even the grades of the students. This can help teachers, students or employees to do fast enrollment.

According to Jennifer Rowley (2005). In enrollment system is basically included in one of the most classification of information system. It served a tool to support information management with regards to student data, enrollment fees, information and other with a connection to the enrollment process. Every school gain competitive advantage for having this system for they will have the capacity on hiding important information at ease and with security.

Another literature, “Lack of enrollment system can lead to chaos and trouble. Students will be confused on what they should do to be able to enroll that is why such system is extremely useful in the way that it gives an ease on working on enrollment process. Enrollment is very useful in retrieving vital information of the students. without enrollment system it can lead difficulty both for the administration of school and student in enrollment process Ace Adrian (2011).

The use of computer information technology results for them to be able to develop products fast and make decision fast, ability to have fluid organization structures, able to cope with the demanding work force and external environment by the rapid development of innovative approaches and lastly using information system confirms the company’s mission vision. School use information system in the way of implementing an enrollment system. This result for them to attract enrollees and earn an income. Enrollees are attracted because the use of the said system makes the transaction faster and easier. Aquino (2005).

According to Dunn and Scott (2005). Science and technologies is the root of emerging innovations in this world. For a person in this field of expertise does not stop to reshape the landscape of today’s business world. Enrollment system has made huge impact into the school arena. It is a system that is built on innovative program strategies. It is a system that will help both the enrollment personnel-in-charge and the student to easily process the enrollment at a lesser time, distinct from traditional enrollment, LAN enrollment system process large assortment of student record and provide efficient and consistent information services.

Continuing innovations in technologies can lead to organizational changes that range from improvement of day to day operation and for easy access it provides for the end user. Many schools today have adapted this innovation in offering their services. Forman (2007)

In other studies, by Kampitan (2000) developed an Enrollment System of Liceo De Victoria that is designed to keep the student’s records. This is used to provide an effective and faster of providing information of the student and also the accounting purposes’ Liceo De Victoria Enrollment was developed and implement using relational database and designed in clipper 5.3. Earlier, Encila (1999) Introduced the Enrollment System for the computer Science Department of LCBA and traders, designed of enrollment System is advantageous to the school because it speeds up the process and with only a minimum amount of power and resources.

Quiver (2001), developed a program using database III which capable of retrieving, access in manipulating of data in easy way. A computerized system to minimized the lost of  record and burden of work was designed by Pajarillo in 2002. Monsalve and Ilagan (2005), developed a program and designed using Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 and Microsoft access. The system is capable of receiving access, searching items, providing adequate information and data gathering.

Methodology

The research is adopted to a descriptive method. This employs the systems analyses method oriented towards computer approach likewise with the utilization of questionnaire on the survey of the information flow within the organization.

Research Design

This study will use the descriptive-survey of research, utilizing the questionnaire as the main gathering tool, which will be supported by relevant confidential information based on interview and observation. This method will be used because it is a status survey that will reveal the conditions and relations of the different processes and persons involved with the proposed system.

Respondent Of The Study

The respondent of the study will be the Administrators, Accountant/cashier, Registrar and the students. They should be known all the information involved in the system. Wherein, the researcher prepares a set of carefully prepared and logically ordered

Questions. This respondent focuses on the company’s employees/staff and students for they are very important in a sense that this study is all about them.

Data Gathering Instrument

These are the instruments or tools for gathering data in research used as basis for drawing conclusions or making inferences. Some of these tools are questionnaires, interviews, empirical observations, research and analysis used by the researcher as they will conduct the proposed study.

An Interview is defined as a meeting of two people face to face to confer about something or an act of questioning to receive a desired answer that is necessary in solving a specific problem. This is where data gathering occurs by asking questions for much needed information from the interviewee verbally and directly.

Observation

This technique is used when the researcher cannot secure adequate or valid data through the use of the questionnaire or some other technique. It is considered to be the most direct means of studying people in so far as their overt behavior is concerned. Observation of current operating procedure is another data gathering tool seeing the system in action gives you additional perspective and better understanding of system procedures.

Questionnaire

A pre-written series of questions used in gathering important Information’s from one or more persons. This will be given to the Individual who have a direct bearing of the study and in order to satisfy the proponent’s goal that is to get and measure the opinions, polls and Attitude of the respondents of the study.

Research Procedure

The researchers had undertaken the following procedure for the successful completion of the study.

the researchers had conducted an interview to the different respondents namely: the students, the employees and staff of the San Jacinto Catholic School Inc. Were the respondents was asked on some reliable information on how the Enrolment System was being process and detail of the data flow.

Gathering Data

In order to get the goal in this study the researchers must get the availability and reliability of the data or in the formation. We gathered data through and interview, research on some computers books, direct observation on how the data had been workout.

Identifying Software For The Research Study

The software is imperative in making computerized system. These requirements are necessary in order to have good relation of a system. It is better to use software that is cheaper but with quality performance in learning access data, and instructions. There searchers had selected the Visual Basic 6.0 as the host language and the Microsoft access as its databases for the development or for the computerization of the Enrolment system. The selection of software was initially based on the availability of a familiarity of the researchers with the particular software.

The data gathered needed for these studies are encoded, the spacing, the alignment that sizes of text were carefully considered and also the wording are thoroughly checked, in order to have a clear and comprehensive output.

This program must be tested not only once but several times, and the performance of the hardware was also tested. So it can process bulk of data.

This part serves the essential explanation of the details above the data. The researcher are required a thorough investigation of the primary aspect, such as the books, internet or even the school need for the researcher, to satisfy the said study.

The methodologies that researchers applied the comprehensive formulation of solution to the problem, the measure in dealing with the objectives of the study and finally the interpretation of the result. This includes the presentation of the data that were purposely gathered then analyze and interpreted, in answer to the sub problems of this study.

Software Design

Design is a visualization of the outcome of a product but then in software design phase, time is very essential because designing software is not an overnight job. It takes a long period of time to ensure efficiency, maintainability and reliability if the software. Software design is a process of problem-solving and planning for a software solution.

After the purpose and specifications of software are determined, software developers will design or employ designers to develop a plan for a solution. It includes low-level component and algorithm implementation issues as well as the architectural view. The proponents considered different aspects in the design of the semi-automated enrollment system.

Each aspect must reflect the goals that the proponents were trying to achieve. Some of the aspects that the proponents incorporated in their study are the following: compatibility, extensibility, fault-tolerance, maintainability, reliability, reusability, and usability. For the design of the software, the proponents also used data flow diagram and entity relationship diagram along with normalization.

Software Implementation Plan

The phase of the software development method where software has already been debugged documented and tested. The objective of the implementation phase is to deliver completely functioning and documented information system. Implementation plan is the process of writing, testing, debugging/troubleshooting, and maintaining the source code of computer programs. This source code is written in programming language. The purpose of programming is to create a program that exhibits ascertain desired behavior.

Coding requires expertise in many different subjects, including knowledge of the application domain, specialized algorithms and formal logic. The proponents used VISUAL BASIC 6.0 for the coding and the interface, and for the system to be available, the proponents made it to Microsoft Visual Basic 10.0. Upon being made, errors were expected to emerge since the codes must also be compatible with the software that the well be used to supports, further debugging was done until there are no errors found.

Software Testing

A stage or phase where the proposed system will be given to a panel of critics and end-users for testing. In this way, the developer can determine the response of the userwhether the system works or not.

Software testing is an empirical investigation conducted to provide the company with information about the quality of the product or service under test, with respect to the context in which it is intended to operate. It also provides an objective, independent view of the software to allow the business to appreciate and understand the risks at implementation of

The software. Test techniques include the process of executing a program or application with the intent of finding software bugs. It can also be the process of validating and verifying that the system meets the requirements that guided its design and development.

Software Deployment

Software deployment is all of the activities that make a software system available for use. The general deployment process consists of several interrelated activities with possible transitions between them. These activities can occur at the producer site or at the consumer site or both. Deployment should be interpreted as a general process that has to be customized according to specific requirements or characteristics.

When the system became available, both the institution and the proponents were able to evaluate how the system provided the needs of the institution and how the proponents were able to include the specified requirements to the system that they have developed.

There are various situations in which you might have to write a problem statement.

In the business world, writing a problem statement is often the first step in kicking off an improvement project. In this case, the problem statement is usually a stand-alone document.

In academic research, writing a problem statement can help you contextualise and understand the significance of your research problem. It is often several paragraphs long, and serves as the basis for your research proposal . Alternatively, it can be condensed into just a few sentences in your introduction .

Practical research is directly relevant to a specific problem that affects an organisation, institution, social group, or society more broadly. To make it clear why your research problem matters, you can ask yourself:

  • What will happen if the problem is not solved?
  • Who will feel the consequences?
  • Does the problem have wider relevance? Are similar issues found in other contexts?

Sometimes theoretical issues have clear practical consequences, but sometimes their relevance is less immediately obvious. To identify why the problem matters, ask:

  • How will resolving the problem advance understanding of the topic?
  • What benefits will it have for future research?
  • Does the problem have direct or indirect consequences for society?

Finally, the problem statement should frame how you intend to address the problem. Your goal here should not be to find a conclusive solution, but rather to propose more effective approaches to tackling or understanding it.

Step 1: Contextualise the problem A family-owned shoe manufacturer has been in business in New England for several generations, employing thousands of local workers in a variety of roles, from assembly to supply-chain to customer service and retail. Employee tenure in the past always had an upward trend, with the average employee staying at the company for 10+ years. However, in the past decade, the trend has reversed, with some employees lasting only a few months, and others leaving abruptly after many years.

Step 2: Show why it matters As the perceived loyalty of their employees has long been a source of pride for the company, they employed an outside consultant firm to see why there was so much turnover. The firm focused on the new hires, concluding that a rival shoe company located in the next town offered higher hourly wages and better “perks”, such as pizza parties. They claimed this was what was leading employees to switch. However, to gain a fuller understanding of why the turnover persists even after the consultant study, in-depth qualitative research focused on long-term employees is also needed. Focusing on why established workers leave can help develop a more telling reason why turnover is so high, rather than just due to salaries. It can also potentially identify points of change or conflict in the company’s culture that may cause workers to leave.

Step 3: Set your aims and objectives This project aims to better understand why established workers choose to leave the company. Qualitative methods such as surveys and interviews will be conducted comparing the views of those who have worked 10+ years at the company and chose to stay, compared with those who chose to leave.

Once you’ve decided on your research objectives , you need to explain them in your paper, at the end of your problem statement.

Keep your research objectives clear and concise, and use appropriate verbs to accurately convey the work that you will carry out for each one.

Today, computers and the Internet, has become an important element in the life of people around the world. The young generation use those technological advances at incredibly faster and more successful rate than the previous generations. One of the main reasons, is that they were born in the present world where the world’s most vast information library is available for free anywhere any time. We call it the internet. The internet is not just the web. According to Wikipedia: The Internet is the global system of interconnected mainframe, personal, and wireless computer networks that use the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to link billions of devices worldwide. It is a network of computers that consist of millions of private, public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scope, linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless, and optical networking technologies. From Wikipedia: The Internet carries an extensive range of information resources and services, such as the inter-linked hypertext documents and applications of the World Wide Web (WWW), electronic mail, Usenet newsgroups, telephony, and peer-to-peer networks for file-sharing. The web is just a part of the internet, email is just a part of the internet, p2p networks is just a part of the internet, cloud computing, etc. Now let’s discuss cloud computing. Another from Wikipedia: Cloud computing, also on-demand computing, is a kind of Internet-based computing that provides shared processing resources and data to computers and other devices on demand. It is a model for enabling ubiquitous, on-demand access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources. Basically it’s a shared Infrastructure/Application/Platform slash resources. Another from Wikipedia: Moore’s law (/mɔərz.ˈlɔː/) is the observation that the number of transistors in a dense integrated circuit doubles approximately every two years. And computers as we know is composed of millions if not billions of transistor. Which affects the performance and the price. We now have free Internet [1] , and computers get cheaper [2] . The Internet in the Philippines has been undergoing development since it was first made available in 1994. As of September 30, 2011, more than 30,000,000 people used the internet in the country accounting for 33% of the total population. The problem is, public schools are still using the old, manual way of enrollment that takes days, weeks or even months to finish. With the help of free Internet and cheaper computers, we decided to develop a system that will aid the BNHS public school (our choice) to transition into a more advance computerized enrollment system hosted on cloud.

As technology continues to advance, computers becomes a closer to everyday life Computers are already seen everywhere at work, at school, and at home. Daily activities either involve the use of or depend on information from a computer. This maybe because computers are used in almost every field and profession like education and office works to perform large number of computer related work. Computerization is a control system that manages processes in industrial workplace. It reduces human errors and processing time, thus it can boost productivity that results into high quality of product. In information system, computerization is concerned about interrelating different but interdependent transactions. This can result in a system with well-integrated processes that can perform much faster and more accurate than the manual system. In the field of education, researchers and theorists have focused intensively in recent years on examining the concepts and use of information in to assist administrators, teachers, students and parents. Schools, like any other organization used to manage all sorts of data and information to ensure attainment of its goals and objectives. The emerging needs in most schools for accurate and relevant data and reliable information strengthen the student information. According to Forman (2007), in his article “New Research Perspectives on Mobility, Organizations, Systems and Technologies,” continuing innovation in technologies can lead to organizational changes that range from improvement of day-to-day operation and for easy access it provides for the end users. Many schools today have adapted this innovation in the offering of their services. Online registration system allow students to register through the internet, eliminating or reducing problems with traditional registration systems, such as long lines, paper forms and troublesome wait lists Online registration system is very essential in a school. Just like in the case of Bambang National High School where to utilize the use of a manual. The school used manual system in recording and retrieving student’s information. On the other hand, registrar’s office also used manual system as a way of recording and retrieving student information. Above the researcher’s observation, human interventions will highly involve in this type of system. As a result, this may involve errors and duplication of data resulting troubles in organization. Inspired by the online registration services, the researchers came up with an online enrollment system for the Bambang National high schools. The school has adapting the K to 12 which means that the 1st year, 2nd year, third year and fourth year are now called as Grade 7, Grade 8, Grade 9, Grade 10 and Grade 11 and Grade 12 is known as senior high School. The study considered the prevailing process of the school and this process can be modified to have a more efficient and effective enrollment system. One of the factors considered in designing the proposed system is the lack of manpower to accommodate all enrollees. The tedious task of filling out the application form and the inaccuracies of information provided by the students are also considered. These factors cause enrollment delays, which is disadvantageous to the enrollment personnel and the enrollees. Since the study involves proper records handling, tracing the constraints and evaluation of the manual system is essential. Thus, the researchers gathered data necessary in the enrollment system, which is designed to benefit the schools, teachers, and students and especially school administrators and faculties as well because they can access and manage information directly and conveniently.

Objectives of the Project ¶

The main objective of the study is to develop an online registration system of Bambang National High School.

Specific Objectives ¶

  • To create an online registration for enrollees of Bambang National High School.
  • To develop an accurate and easier way of registration for the students of Bambang National High School.
  • To Generate reports needed for enrollment
  • To provide a user friendly enrollment website in managing enrollment of old students, new student and transferees.

Scope and Limitations ¶

Limitations ¶.

The system does not cover the computation of student’s grades, class scheduling, viewing of teachers and paying of fees. Not accepting any online payments. It can only operate for high school enrollment purposes. It can’t show the schedule of time of the subjects per year level.

Significance of the Project ¶

The significance of the study would justify the need to conduct the study. It specifies the group of people who will benefit from the study. Students. The study will help students to be knowledgeable enough on entering the information technology fields as applying the lectures to actual performances and to inform them of an easy way of registration. It will give them also a background and become more advance and be familiar on having a new way of registration. Faculty. In this proposed system, it will help them to lessen their work and less time consumed in handling the enrollment process for the students. It helps them to minimize the effort and time exert in terms of gathering the data or information of the students. Administrators. The result of this investigation would serve as a benchmark for them to make an easy on handling the student records during the enrollment. It will help to lessen their work and help them also to have a fast way of enrolling students as well as in securing student information. Future Researchers. This study would serve as a handy reference for the other researchers who would embark on a similar study in the future especially on certain aspects not derived into by the present study.

Enrollment is an exciting day for every student in every school. It is the most expected activity after the summer vacation. But contrary to the expectations of the student enrollees has posed problems and inconveniences because it has become tedious and time-consuming.

All these have posed a problem that alarmed the researchers and decided to pursue and resolves the enrollment problem by designing and execute a system of enrollment which would cater to smooth and less problematic flow of enrollment in Ilog Catholic High School.

Purpose and Description of the Study

The main objective of the study is to replace the manual process of enrollment of the said school to have an organized flow of transactions and easy work. The system will make the work faster, easier and more comprehensive. This system is generally for registration and enrollment of students.

Specific Objectives

Scope and limitations.

The proposed Computerized Enrollment System is created and developed for Ilog Catholic High School. It is used for registration and enrollment. The system can manage the information of the students, staff, and teachers. The system can also search all records of the students enrolled in the institution according to the grade level. The system also generates reports from enrollment details and reviews of student’s information. The system can also add subjects for every grade level. The system can also create schedules for the students for the school year. The system will be hosted locally by the staff to avoid security threats, slow process, and to make the system faster compare to hosting it online. The limitation of this system is only to register and enroll students who will be enrolled in the institution. The system does not have account transactions to be paid by the students because it only focuses on registration and enrollment of the students.

Significance of the Study

Registrar. Concerning the registrar’s office, the proposed system will help them in maintaining the data of the students and the institution will not use the manual data gathering. The staff needs to check the database for the records needed.

Future Researchers The system will benefit the future researcher/s as a guide or reference in their own efforts at any research proposal or project.

Definitions of Terms

For clarity and understanding, the keywords that we used in this study are defined as follows:

Database .   is a type of storage wherein all the information of the students, staff, teachers are saved this will be secured to avoid hacking.

Hardware. these are tools used in performing the Computerized Enrollment System on the computer.

Reports. reports are generated and printed by the staff It contains information on enrollment, student’s information review, and printed schedule of subjects for the whole school year. Software . programs that run on a computer and perform the functions in the whole enrollment process.
