In celebration of Daft Punk ’s 25th anniversary of their groundbreaking debut album, “Homework” comes the surprise release of “Homework Digital Deluxe.”  The physical boxed set arrives in April; the full track list appears below.

It will be previewed with an unreleased, exclusive and time-limited piece of content showing on 2/22 at 2:22 p.m. PT: a one-off livestream of the “Twitch of the Mayan 97” concert that you can hear here . The concert was filmed at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles on December 17, 1997, during the “Daftendirektour,” the duo’s first concert tour.

The news comes exactly one year after the vastly influential duo announced their split .

The “Homework 25th Anniversary Edition” contains 15 remixes from the original album (nine of them previously unreleased on streaming services), including Masters At Work, DJ Sneak, Todd Terry, Motorbass, Slam, Ian Pooley, I:Cube, Roger Sanchez & Junior Sanchez. Knowing the ways of Daft Punk, it seems possible that other content could materialize around the set.

In celebration of the groundbreaking album's 25th anniversary

Surprise! To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Daft Punk ’s debut album Homework , a rare recording of the duo performing maskless in 1997 will stream on Twitch beginning at 5:22 p.m. ET / 2:22 p.m. PT.

The recording in question is taken from Daft Punk’s December 17th, 1997 gig at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles as part of their “Daftendirektour.” Today’s Twitch stream is billed as an “exclusive and time limited piece of content” that will only be shown once.

Daft Punk have also released a digital deluxe edition of Homework featuring 15 remixes, nine of which were previously unavailable on streaming platforms. The expanded tracklist includes contributions from Masters At Work, DJ Sneak, Todd Terry, Motorbass, Slam, Ian Pooley, I:Cube, Roger Sanchez & Junior Sanchez, and more. It’s available to stream below; a vinyl release of the Homework deluxe edition is set for April 15th and can be pre-ordered here .

Homework was originally released on January 20th, 1997. Though today’s festivities arrive a couple of days late, the January 22nd date is not without significance — Daft Punk officially announced their disbandment one years ago today

Daft Punk Streams Rare 1997 Live Set on Twitch

The electronic music duo has also released the deluxe edition of ‘homework.’.

Exactly one year ago today, Daft Punk announced their split . However, that doesn’t mean the electronic music duo has not forgotten their fans.

Earlier this afternoon, the pair unexpectedly appeared on Twitch and live streamed rare footage of a 1997 concert. Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter were seen without their helmets performing at a Los Angeles nightclub. The duo also released a special deluxe edition of their album   Homework  featuring nine new remixes on all streaming platforms, along with a 25th anniversary vinyl reissue of the record.

Daft Punk have released a digital deluxe edition of their landmark debut album Homework to celebrate its 25th anniversary. It includes 15 remixes, nine of which have never been available on streaming services before. The duo are also reissuing the LP and their live album, Alive ’97,  on vinyl – both are out April 15. Daft Punk broke up a year ago, eight years after releasing their final album, Random Access Memories . Yesterday (February 22), with almost no warning, the duo they started airing a one-time-only stream of a 1997 live performance at Mayan Theater in Los Angeles on Twitch .

NEW YORK (AFP) - Exactly one year after French duo Daft Punk shocked fans by announcing an unceremonious split, they returned to social media and hosted a one-day-only livestream of a 1997 show on live- streaming service Twitch.

The era-defining dancefloor act began the livestream at 2.22pm Pacific time on Feb 22 (6.22am on Feb 23, Singapore time), sharing rare footage from their Dec 12, 1997 show in Los Angeles when they played the set without their iconic helmets.

Daft Punk also released a deluxe anniversary edition of their debut album Homework, which came out 25 years ago.

From Da Funk in 1995 to Get Lucky in 2013, Daft Punk became the torch-bearers for French house music across the globe, winning six Grammy awards and pioneering the monumental sound-and-light shows that came to characterise the electronic dance movement (EDM) of recent years.

They did so while almost never revealing their faces: the ubiquitous helmets became another much-copied trope of EDM stars, but also afforded Thomas Bangalter, 47, and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, 48, freedom from the fame that quickly encircled them.

The duo met at school in Paris before an inauspicious start in music with the rock band Darlin', which also featured a future member of the French indie band Phoenix.

One review in the British music press dismissed the band as "daft punky thrash" - which struck a chord with them.

Reemerging as an electronic outfit, they met with instant success.

Early singles Da Funk and Around The World became club fixtures, and led to massive sales for the album Homework in 1997.

It was in the video for Around The World that they first donned the helmets that would become their signature look.

It mirrored the tight control they exercised over every part of their career, which included ownership of their master recordings.

They followed up with the even more successful Discovery in 2001, which spawned the hits One More Time and Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.

Their fourth and last album, Random Access Memories (2013), was a phenomenal success, winning them four Grammys the following year, including best record for Get Lucky, the millions-selling lead single featuring Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers.

Daft Punk have announced vinyl reissues of their 1997 debut, ‘Homework’, and live album, ‘Alive 1997’.  Both reissues will be released on 15th April, and are available to pre-order here .

The announcement lands on the first anniversary of the duo’s sudden split, and a month after the 25th anniversary of ‘Homework’. Last night (22nd), they live streamed a rare, unmasked set filmed at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles in 1997 to mark the occasion. 

The duo have also just released a deluxe digital edition of ‘Homework’, which features 15 remixes from the original album, nine of which have never been shared on digital streaming platforms before. Remixers include Masters At Work, DJ Sneak, Todd Terry, Motorbass, Slam, Ian Pooley, I:Cube, Roger Sanchez and Junior Sanchez. Check it out here .

The iconic Parisian electronic duo announced their sudden break up on 22nd February 2021 after 28 years. The announcement was made by way of an eight-minute excerpt from their 2006 film Electroma, titled Epilogue. Their publicist Kathryn Frazier subsequently confirmed the news of their split to Pitchfork , with no reason given.

Daft Punk will celebrate the 25th anniversary of their debut album, Homework , by releasing a deluxe edition of the album and hosting a one-time-only livestream of a 1997 concert. Both the deluxe edition and the livestream will drop today, 2/22/2022 at — fittingly — at 2:22 p.m. PT (that’s the less numerically-pleasing time of 5:22 p.m. on the East Coast).

The livestream will take place on Twitch , where Daft Punk will share footage from their Dec. 12, 1997 show at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles. The gig came at the tail end of the duo’s “Daftendirektour” world tour in support of Homework , with Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter playing the entire set without their signature helmets.  

Meanwhile, the deluxe edition of Homework arriving today will feature a slew of remixes, nine of which were previously unavailable on streaming services. The new-to-DSP remixes are pretty much all alternate versions of the Homework classic, “Around the World,” including versions by DJ Sneak, house legend Todd Terry (“Tee’s Frozen Sun Mix”), and the American garage house duo Kenlou. The deluxe edition also includes remixes of “Revolution 909,” “Burnin’,” and “Teachers.”

On top of the deluxe edition of Homework , Daft Punk will be reissuing the album — as well as their live LP, Alive ’97 — on vinyl. Pre-orders for both releases are up on Daft Punk’s website and Amazon.com .

While Homework technically came out Jan. 20, 1997 , the decision to start the 25th anniversary celebration over a month later isn’t as strange as it seems. One year ago today, Daft Punk announced they were breaking up after 28 years together.

Earlier today (22nd February), we saw Daft Punk start to splutter back into life , provoking hopes they may be about to reverse their decision to split, a year ago to the day.

Sadly, that doesn’t appear to be the case. Instead, they’ve released a digital deluxe edition of their debut album ‘Homework’, featuring fifteen remixes. Nine of these have never been on streaming services before, with contributions from the likes of Masters At Work, DJ Sneak, Todd Terry, Motorbass, Slam, Ian Pooley, I:Cube, Roger Sanchez & Junior Sanchez, and more.

‘Homework’ and their live album ‘Alive ’97’, will also be getting a vinyl release on 15th April.

As well as the new edition, the duo have also shared video of their 17th December 1997 show at The Mayan in Los Angeles as a one-time-only stream. It’ll appear on their new Twitch channel at 2:22 Pacific Time today. I.e. right now. You can tune in here.

From ‘Da Funk’ in 1995 to ‘Get Lucky’ in 2013, Daft Punk became the torch-bearers for French house music across the globe, winning six Grammy awards and pioneering the monumental sound-and-light shows that came to characterise the electronic dance movement (EDM) of recent years.

They did so while almost never revealing their faces: the ubiquitous helmets became another much-copied trope of EDM stars, but also afforded Thomas Bangalter, 47, and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, 48, freedom from the fame that quickly encircled them.

Their fourth and last album, 2013’s ‘Random Access Memories’, was a phenomenal success, winning them four Grammys the following year including best record for ‘Get Lucky’, the millions-selling lead single featuring Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers.

Few records combine sonic innovation with veneration for what came before as succinctly as Daft Punk’s 1997 debut, Homework. The title itself implies this duality: It’s a reference to both the bedroom studio where musicians Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo recorded their early house and techno productions, and a nod to the older artists the duo studied in preparation for their dance music breakthrough. Many of those musical ancestors are name-checked on the Homework track “Teachers,” on which Bangalter and Homem-Christo salute the (mostly) electronic music producers and DJs who inspired their work. That includes plenty of semi-obscure Chicago house music heroes and Detroit and UK techno champions, many of whom predated Daft Punk by a decade—but who were still active in the late-1990s rave scene. By tagging their peers, the members of Daft Punk were expressing solidarity with the many BIPOC artists whom they’d obsessed over for years. It was a declaration of belonging that could have come off as appropriation, had Homework not so fully elevated the genre. Bangalter and Homem-Christo might wear their influences on their sleeve, but their music transcends mere tribute; it’s some of the most unforgettable hook-laden house and techno ever put to wax. When it comes to the dance floor, if a record’s hot, that record is hot. And DJs across the globe pumped Homework’s 16 tracks, which included everything from playful filtered disco (“Revolution 909”) to throttling acid techno (“Rollin’ & Scratchin’”). Meanwhile, radio jocks and MTV programmers on the lookout for format-friendly versions of popular rave sounds swooned over Homework cuts like “Da Funk” and “Around the World,” which became breakout hits, thanks to inventive videos directed, respectively, by Spike Jonez and Michel Gondry. That near-impossible confluence of talent and timing allowed Homework to achieve its position atop every list of 1990s electronic music. As time went on, the members of Daft Punk would prove themselves worthy of every accolade Homework received as they continued to evolve from students to teachers to masters—elevating the state of electronic music every step of the way.
