Weekly homework tasks :
- Daily reading at home (home reading book) to an adult
- Spellings (tested weekly)
- TT Rockstars
- Half termly learning log (this will be linked to the themes for the half term)
- Optional additional catch up - ‘Read Theory’ (Year 2-Year 6)
Spellings : We use the No Nonsense Spelling scheme in school. We will be learning words in class that follow a particular pattern/rule. These words, along with a range of others, including Year 3 and 4 statutory words and words from previous years (such as high frequency spellings) will be tested each week on a Friday. The words and test dates for each week are in the spelling booklets which have been sent home. A copy can also be found on this page.
TT Rockstars / times tables : Please encourage your child to learn all of the times tables (up to 12x12) and their related division facts. This will help your child in several aspects of mathematics. All children have been give a login for Times Table Rock Stars but please feel free to practise in whichever way you feel suits your child. There will be a statutory 'Times Table Check' towards the end of Year 4.
Half-termly learning log : A 'learning log' will be set each half term. This will be a project or piece of work for the children to complete at home. If you wish to help them and be involved, that's great! Alternatively, the children can complete it independently. It will be sent home in the first week or two of the half term. Children can now upload their completed learning logs onto Seesaw rather than bringing them into school.

Our termly, optional homework for years 1-6 is designed to be a fun addition to your child's current homework schedule. Focus on daily reading, spelling practice, and Mathletics remains essential. These activities offer a chance to delve deeper into class topics in a collaborative and creative way. It's about sparking curiosity and working together.
Each term will have optional activities aligned with each year group's current topics. You'll have until a specific due date towards the end of the term to complete the activities, which is listed on each document. This flexibility allows you to fit it into your schedule alongside your child's regular homework expectations. Please make sure not to bring in any of the optional homework before this date.
We hope your family enjoys this opportunity to explore learning together!

- Ongoing Home Learning
Our Home Learning
We use many different approaches to home learning at St Stephen's. Reading and/or phonics is essential and is expected to be done daily, in school and at home.
We expect children to focus on their maths 'KIRFS', (essential maths knowledge) at home and at school too.
Creative and or research activities, based on current project learning, is an ongoing, and as and when expectation.
Alongside these home learning activities, we use particular web based software programmes to allow ease of use and inclusion to all our children.

Your superhero needs to move around, so your job is to design and make a car for them.
1. Draw a picture of your superhero car and label all the important parts: wheels, window, body, lights, steering wheel. Label all the special features and super powers the car has. 2. Make the car. You can use anything- lego, junk modelling, an old plastic bottle, plasticine, cardboard.
There are some videos below on how to make self -propelled cars, using simple things like rubber bands, bottle tops, plastic bottles, buttons and lolly sticks.
Most importantly, upload your photos so we can see your amazing cars!!!

The information below is for parents, carers and children to help them with home learning.
Every day, your child should be:
- Reading (or read to) for at least 30 minutes.
- Completing a writing activity for 30 minutes, e.g. writing a story, a diary, a newspaper report, a book review, a letter or a fact report. This could be about anything you find interesting: plants, space, the Romans, the Egyptians, science, countries of the world, food, computers, sport… the possibilities are endless!
- Be practicing number bonds and times tables for 20 minutes. (They can do this using TT Rockstars and Numbots. Log in details have been sent via email).
- Being active for one hour. Click below for some ideas on staying active:
https://www.nhs.uk/change4life/activities?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIibHixZmk6AIVyLTtCh2aQQe2EAAYASAAEgIE9vD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
Then spending 30-50 mins on a topic of their choice: Science, art, DT, RE, PSHE, Geography, History. BBC Bitesize is really useful for this!

Spellings to learn at home
Here is the weekly list of spellings for Year 2 for Autumn 1. The children should learn the 10 words on the list, which will be tested on Fridays in class.
There are also all of the phonics sounds that we are recapping in class: these are just for your information so you can look out for these sounds when we read every day with your child.

Year 2 curriculum
We have a brilliant time in Year 2, have a look below and find out some of what we do:
Autumn Term In our topic 'Making a Difference', we look at the life of Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale and how they made a difference to other people's lives. In the second half term we learn about the Great Fire of London and the Gunpowder Plot through our topic 'London's Burning'. We also perform in the Lower School Christmas Play.
Spring Term Our first topic is 'Super Heroes' where we love learning about, and pretending to be, our favourite Super Hero! In the second half of this term our topic is 'Around the World in 80 Days'. Barnaby bear will be on his travels. He may visit places like the Mexico City, St Lucia and London. We will be finding out about these places and sharing with each other the places our families are from and the countries we have visited.
Summer Term Our topic is 'Traditional Stories with a Twist'. We develop our writing skills by writing our own version of a Traditional tale with a twist e.g. The Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig. In DT we will make puppets and perform our stories. During this half term, we will also be completing the end of Key Stage One assessments.
Our final topic of Year Two is 'Mini beasts' where we explore living things and their habitats. If the weather is good, we can pay a visit to our local allotment to find some of these mini beasts!

Moscow Metro
The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.
What is the kremlin in russia?
The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.
And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.
During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.
There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.
