  • SCCM Client Installation Failed With Error Code 0x87d00215

SCCM client installation fails with error 0x87d00215 – Failed to get DP locations as the expected version from MP error. This error is mostly related with missing or misconfigured site boundaries.

The SCCM client installation fails with below error shown in ccmsetup.log file.

Failed to get DP locations as the expected version from MP ‘http://server1.techuisitive.com’. Error 0x87d00215

The below command line was used for the client installation.

ccmsetup.exe /SMSSITECODE = P01

The above error indicates that a new version of client installation source was required. However a distribution point could not be located.

Perform the following checks.

  • Check if client subnet / AD Site is added in SCCM boundary.
  • Check if IP Subnet / AD Site is associated with any boundary group.
  • Check if respective boundary group is associated with a Distribution Point.

Download failed with error code 0x87d00215(Access denied)

Hi everyone. We are using Configuration Manager 2103 to deploy cumulative updates and Microsoft 365 updates, but on many devices the download fails with error code 0x87d00215(access denied). The logs are outputting the following information.

UpdatesDeployment.log Failed to get update (Site_XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX/SUM_XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX) Article Id, error = 0x87d00215

LocationServices.log Failed to retrieve Root Site Code from AD with error 0x87d00215 Failed to refresh security settings over AD with error 0x87d00215 Failed to refresh Site Signing Certificate over AD with error 0x87d00215

The boundary group has been set correctly, and we have found some devices in the same boundary group that have downloaded successfully. Reinstalling the client with push install did not improve the situation.

How can I determine the cause of the problem?

Microsoft Configuration Manager An integrated solution for for managing large groups of personal computers and servers. 4,160 questions Sign in to follow

Exactly what type of boundaries are you using? I hoping ip ranges only.

@Garth Thanks for your reply! As you assumed, we only use a range of IP addresses. We are not using any IP subnet, Active Directory site, IPv6 prefix, or VPN.

Even though the boundary group has been set correctly, could we know the application or package is deployed to these issued clients successfully?

If not, please check if these issue clients are able to find the DP, and we have reinstalled the client, is it normal, for example, under Actions tab, is there action missing?

Here is the related article we could refer to: https://www.prajwaldesai.com/sccm-client-site-code-discovery-unsuccessful/

Thank you very much for the information. We have no problem with the deployment settings and have not set up a maintenance window. However, when we check the ccmcache, we know that the content is not downloaded.

When we click on "Find Site" it is found correctly and we have confirmed that all actions are present as well as on the normal device.

Could we know this issue happens on the update or deploy application or package?

Besides, please check CcmMessaging.log to check if there is something wrong between clients and MP.

Best regards, Amanda

thanks a lot.

We are deploying the package to the same distribution point on the same boundary, but some devices are succeeding and some are failing, so we are guessing that the problem is on the client side. We have of course checked the status of the distribution and it is successful, and we have re-downloaded and re-distributed the content several times with no resolution.

The following message is rarely logged in CcmMessaging.log

Status Agent hasn't been initialized yet. Attempting to create pending event.

EndpointMessage(Queue='UpdateStore', ID={BC1E8F2F-FFA7-44ED-A5DA-88042966338C}): Will be discarded (0x87d00310).

Failed in WinHttpReceiveResponse API, ErrorCode = 0x2efe

Successfully queued event on HTTP/HTTPS failure for server 'primary_server.ad.aaaa.co.jp'. Post to http://primary_server.ad.aaaa.co.jp/ccm_system/request failed with 0x87d00231.

If you need any other information to investigate, we will be happy to provide it.

Thanks for your replying.

It seems that there is no direct error in this log.

And issue is about download, could we know if there is something wrong in datatransferservice.log, and event log about Bits? Such as this:

May we know the current status of the question? If there is any chance to try above suggestion? If there is any other assistance we can provide, please feel free to let us know, we will do our best to help you.

Thanks and regards, Amanda

  1. SCCM 5.00.9068.1000

I do not see any errors being reported in component status. I'd include log files, but not sure which ones are best to help diagnose this. On the client end, the ccmexec.log files show a bunch of "GetAppGroupAssignment failed with (0x86d00215)" which just implies it is not getting a reply from a distribution point.

  2. GetAppGroupAssignment failed with (0x87d00215). #183

Usually it appears when a package is assigned for deployment but cannot be found for downloading. Try to check updatesdeployment.log. When i enter the application pane, i see GetAppGroupAssignment failed with (0x87d00215). repeating in the ccmexec log file.

  3. SCCM Client Installation Failed With Error Code 0x87d00215

The SCCM client installation fails with below error shown in ccmsetup.log file. Failed to get DP locations as the expected version from MP ‘http://server1.techuisitive.com’. Error 0x87d00215. The below command line was used for the client installation. ccmsetup.exe /SMSSITECODE = P01.

  4. Failed to get targeted update, error = 0x87d00215

The error code 0x87d00215 indicates that the update is not applicable to the target device. This could be due to a number of reasons, such as the update being superseded or the device not meeting the requirements for the update. You can try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue:

  5. Download failed with error code 0x87d00215(Access denied)

Failed to get update (Site_XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX/SUM_XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX) Article Id, error = 0x87d00215. LocationServices.log. Failed to retrieve Root Site Code from AD with error 0x87d00215. Failed to refresh security settings over AD with error 0x87d00215.

  6. Software Center Issues: GetAppGroupAssignment failed with...

I’ve looked at log files and CcmExec shows “GetAppGroupAssignment failed with (0x87d00215).”. The message is generated every time the user attempts to install any application in Software Center. The execmgr.log file has entries stating, “Software Distribution site settings policy does not yet exist on the client.”.

  7. Clients not getting Applications in software center : r/SCCM

GetAppGroupAssignment failed with (0x87d00215). Googled it and come up with lots of DP or maybe boundary issue? But haven't actually seen this exact error. Using Support Center, I can see all the apps the SHOULD be available, but they don't display anything under deployment types.
