Life is a gift from God

Life is a gift from God

The only way to fulfilling life is through thanksgiving and praise. When we recognise life as a gift from God, we start appreciating every breath we take. And when we do that, we are fully living. Our life is not then any more glamorous or easier than before but life becomes full of meaning and purpose. And that is another gift from God. Suddenly we start recognising heavenly gifts around us. Life becomes more and more precious. And we love it more as we continue to grow in God’s love and grace.

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise,   making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.  ( Eph. 5:15-16 , NIV)

Do not take it granted

Taking God’s good gifts granted leads to misery. As soon as we forget to give thanks and praise God for his gifts, we take them granted. When we don’t remember we are not entitled to luxuries and niceties in life, we blame God for our hardships. That’s why it is important to seize every day and remember that life is a gift from God. Counting blessings is an effective way to keep us from taking life and other gifts of God granted. And that enables us to truly enjoy every breath we take.

Gracious God, Thank you for the gift of life. Help us to appreciate every breath we take. Do not let us take your gifts granted. Help us to see your handiwork in our lives. We thank you and praise you forever and ever. In Jesus’ name, Amen

Q4U : What do you think? Is life a gift from God? If yes: How do you live out that in your life?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you embrace life as a gift from God!

All of life is a gift

So many of us have desires for our lives that begin: “I deserve” or “I must have.” We want what everyone else has. We ask God for very specific things. We want life to be somewhat fair.

Of course, it’s very human of us to feel this way. But if we don’t get what we want and a season of life turns out quite unkind, we so easily grow angry and bitter. And then angry and bitter some more.

But for me, the tide began to turn after a recent bitter season when a friend gave me this nugget: All of life is a gift.

This nugget gradually worked its wisdom in and I realized that there’s nothing that you or I deserve in life. Nothing.  All of life is a gift.

For  all of life is a gift.  Or as James 1:17 speaks, “Every good and perfect gift is from above.”

“ God whose giving knows no ending,  from your rich and endless store . . .  gifted by you, we turn to you,  offering up ourselves in praise,  thankful song shall rise forever,  gracious Donor of our days.”

I couldn’t help but have tears roll down my cheeks in step with the invitation of this song, especially as I thought about the reasons why I was worshipping in this particular community on this particular day sitting with the lovely people sitting beside me in the pews.

Trusting that all of life is a gift changes our prayers, our daily plans, and our responses to our worst-case-scenario realities.

For we can accept what we have (and don’t have) with gratitude.

For we can accept what we have without demanding that it remains in its current state forever.

For we can accept what we have with enjoyment—not “it would only be a little bit better if . . .”

Grief and Loss-Suffering Deep Sorrow Over the Loss of a ...

Life is a gift from God no matter its length. Our earthly life may range from a few minutes to over 100 years. But no matter the length of life here in this world, our lives are eternal in the spiritual sense. Life takes on a whole new meaning as we look at it considering eternity. Our life is a gift from our creator God; it was His idea.

Our God is the Divine Craftsman who wants each life to be unique. Psalm 139: 13  You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14  Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. 15  You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. 16  You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. [1]

The Gift of Life is Filled with the Unexpected

Joseph’s life was filled with many twists and turns. He was the son of Jacob and had eleven brothers. These brothers hated him and sold Joseph into slavery in Egypt. Through a miracle of God, he became second in command of the nation of Egypt.  Joseph prepared Egypt for a great drought. God used all the struggles of Joseph’s life to prepare him to save his family.

Joseph’s brothers came to buy grain and God used that situation to bring reconciliation to the family. The whole family moved to Egypt where they would grow into a nation. Joseph had not anticipated the life that God gave him. Genesis 50: 22  So Joseph and his brothers and their families continued to live in Egypt. Joseph lived to the age of 110. 23  He lived to see three generations of descendants of his son Ephraim, and he lived to see the birth of the children of Manasseh’s son Makir, whom he claimed as his own. [2]

Your Life is a Gift from the Lord

Although you may not think you are important to God, but you are. Remember the Lord is thinking about you every second.  He knows every thought, every joyful experience, and every tear you shed. In addition, the Lord sent His Son Jesus to die for your sins before you were born. Jesus’ work on the cross gives us the opportunity to spend eternity with Him when we trust Him as our Savior. The gift of eternal life is the greatest gift we will ever receive. What a great God we have!

Father, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from you. I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward you. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. [3]

My belief in God, in my savior Jesus Christ and the courting and guiding Holy Spirit brought me through my wife’s illness and passing just as it did my Mothers not long before. Today the Lord blessed me by meeting a beautiful hearted woman whose husband has had 2 strokes and is on dialisis. We discussed how hard it must be without faith. I was overwhelmed and hugged her and pray for her and her husbands health. Such kindness and devotion to behold was a gift from God to me and I hope somehow I was a blessing to her.

“Life – a Precious Gift from God” (Psalm 139:14)

Life is truly a gift from God. God is the Creator and Sustainer of all life. God is “pro-life” and as His faithful, Bible-believing followers, so are we!

In the first book of the Bible – Genesis 1 – we read that the Spirit of God (the Holy Spirit) hovered over the face of the waters and that the earth was formless, empty and dark. (Genesis 1:2) When God miraculously spoke with His almighty Word and Power, everything immediately came into being – the light; the atmosphere; the land, water and plant life; the sun, moon and stars; the birds of the air and the fish of the seas; and finally, every land animal and the crown of His creation – human life! (See also Genesis 2.)

The prophet Jeremiah, by the inspiration of God, quotes God, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.”(Jeremiah 1:5a) And the Psalmists says, “For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, Your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.” (Psalm 139: 13-16)

God graciously creates, sustains and cares for life at every stage – pre-born, infancy, adolescence, maturity and old age. On this “Life Weekend,” as we thank Him for the gift of life which He gives to each one of us, He calls us to take up His Word of Truth in order to confront the wickedness of our city, state and nation – the sin of Abortion. As we observe “Life Weekend,” we can’t help but remember the tragedy of abortion on demand which has killed some 56 million innocent babies since the 1973 Supreme Court decision of Roe v. Wade. (1.4 million each year; 3500 each day; approximately 45 babies during the length of the sermon.) The horrifying atrocities of the WWII Nazi war machine pale in comparison to the murder of innocent human life at the hand of the modern-day abortion industry!

God’s word is perfectly clear; it is not ambiguous; it is not complicated; it is not hard to understand! He tells us, “Thou shalt NOT MURDER (kill).” (Deuteronomy 5:17) But like the temptation of our first parents – Adam and Eve – the sinister devil seeks to tempt us into doubt, disbelief and misunderstanding.

God calls us – as citizens of His Kingdom and as citizens of our land – to use powerful prayer; peaceful protest; and personal persuasion in order to advance the cause of life. God is calling us – you and me – to STAND; to stand for Him and against sin! We pray that God would perform a miracle today… that He would perform a miracle in the hearts and lives of all Americans, so that we would hear His Word, believe, repent, be forgiven by God and be spared from God’s divine judgment!

In the nail-marked hands of Jesus there is forgiveness for those who have been involved in the sin of Abortion and for those who have been reluctant to speak out against it and for Life. In Jesus, there is forgiveness for ALL repentant sinners!

What a joy and privilege it is to be God’s spokespersons for Life! Life is a precious gift from God and along with the Psalmist we say, “I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” (Psalm 139: 14)

See you in church this weekend!

Blessings in Christ, Pastor Snow
