MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics (CTL) researchers advise select students in the  Interdepartmental Doctoral Program in Transportation  led by MIT’s Mobility Initiative, a cross-disciplinary graduate program in transportation which provides graduate degrees for students interested in transportation studies and research. 

The Interdepartmental Doctoral Program in Transportation provides a structured and follow-on doctoral program for students. The interdepartmental structure of the degree allows students flexibility in developing individually tailored paths of study that cross both disciplinary and departmental lines. The student’s research is performed at, and is supervised by faculty at the MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics. Detailed requirements for the program can be found  here .

Additionally,  The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE)  and  The Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS)  offer PhD research opportunities in Logistics and Supply Chain as a part of their degree programs.

Students are encouraged to apply to the  Interdepartmental Program  or may apply directly to the CEE or IDSS departments and indicate on their application their interest in pursuing research in Logistics and Supply Chain. Students must apply through either CEE or IDSS and indicate on their application their interest in pursuing research in Logistics and Supply Chain. Students would then develop an  interdisciplinary degree proposal  with their department committee and submit to the Office of Graduate Education for approval.

• DBA programs typically take less time to complete (three years), while a Ph.D. is expected to take three to five years.
• Expect 60 credit hours to complete a DBA program and more than 90 credit hours for a Ph.D. program.

Ph.D. in Supply Chain Management Overview

Most Ph.D. programs in Supply Chain Management and Logistics take three to five years to complete. You’ll be required to take advanced-level coursework in supply chain management and logistics, complete a range of research projects and academic papers, and write a dissertation. Credit hours for a Ph.D. in Supply Chain Management and Logistics will vary, but you can expect to complete a minimum of 90 credit hours.

Admissions Requirements

To be accepted into a Ph.D. in Supply Chain Management and Logistics program, prospective students must have a master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution (or the international equivalent). Comprehensive Exam

Ph.D. coursework is frequently completed in the first few years of your doctorate. Before you’re allowed to write your dissertation, you’ll usually be expected to pass a Comprehensive Exam. This exam will test your knowledge of the material covered in your Ph.D. program in Supply Chain Management and Logistics. It’s typically a written exam, although departments often have the discretion to make it an oral exam as well.

Dissertation & Defense

As an integral part of KLU’s mission to educate future leaders in logistics, supply chain management and management, we are offering doctoral candidates a program that prepares them to evaluate and reflect the state of knowledge in their particular field of research. 

KLU’s PhD program is a unique program in training academics to be future thought leaders with a thorough understanding of one of the world’s most dynamic sectors. Digitization, new value-adding processes, and a need for increased sustainability along the triple bottom line have globally a major impact on corporations and society in general, and logistics and supply chain management in particular. We do this from the perspective of all logistics and management disciplines, and welcome applicants from very diverse backgrounds including (but not limited to) business (including finance, marketing), (industrial) engineering, and psychology.

The PhD program is a four-year program mainly consisting of independent research under supervision by two academic supervisors of KLU’s outstanding faculty , encompassing a wide scope of social science and business disciplines. • Completed or about to complete a Master degree (minimum overall grade of “good” – 2.0 or better for German degrees or an equivalent international grade) in business, economics, social sciences, or comparable studies from an accredited university with a good international reputation, and belonging to the best students of your class.
• English language proficiency at a level that is equivalent to at least IELTS 6.5.
• Support by at least one resident faculty member of the KLU.

• Excellence indicators could include (but are not limited to): full transcripts with grades and explanation of grading system, class rank, grade/rank of thesis.
• Excellence indicators could include (but are not limited to): ranking in national university entrance exam, high school grades, GRE or GMAT results and ranking, admission to graduate programs of reputable research universities or business schools, competitive scholarships awarded, prestigious awards received.

Personal fit

• Research statement (maximum two pages) in which you outline the research you would like to do, and with which faculty members there is most likely a good fit. Also explain how this research statement is linked to current or past research of resident faculty and the KLU. Feel free to get in touch with specific KLU faculty in advance of your final submission; however, please realize that faculty may not be responsive to all enquiries. If you have been in touch with a KLU faculty member, please mention this in your application file.
• Document including a link to a video-file of yourself stating why you should be admitted to the program, and specifically why you expect you could be a future thought leader in your discipline (maximum 3 minutes).

The MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics (CTL) works with two other departments to offer the PhD in Logistics and Supply Chain: The interdepartmental Transportation Education Committee hosted by Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) and The Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS). The interdepartmental structure of the program allows students flexibility in developing individual programs of study that cross both disciplinary and departmental lines. Scholarships & awards (merit-based funding)

All applicants are encouraged to review the awards listing to identify potential opportunities to fund their graduate education. The database lists merit-based scholarships and awards and allows for filtering by various criteria, such as domestic vs. international or degree level.

Graduate Research Assistantships (GRA)

Many professors are able to provide Research Assistantships (GRA) from their research grants to support full-time graduate students studying under their supervision. The duties constitute part of the student's graduate degree requirements. A Graduate Research Assistantship is considered a form of fellowship for a period of graduate study and is therefore not covered by a collective agreement. Stipends vary widely, and are dependent on the field of study and the type of research grant from which the assistantship is being funded.

Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTA)

Graduate programs may have Teaching Assistantships available for registered full-time graduate students. Full teaching assistantships involve 12 hours work per week in preparation, lecturing, or laboratory instruction although many graduate programs offer partial TA appointments at less than 12 hours per week. Teaching assistantship rates are set by collective bargaining between the University and the Teaching Assistants' Union .

Graduate Academic Assistantships (GAA)

Academic Assistantships are employment opportunities to perform work that is relevant to the university or to an individual faculty member, but not to support the student’s graduate research and thesis. Wages are considered regular earnings and when paid monthly, include vacation pay.

Financial aid (need-based funding)

Canadian and US applicants may qualify for governmental loans to finance their studies. Please review eligibility and types of loans .

All students may be able to access private sector or bank loans.

Foreign government scholarships

Many foreign governments provide support to their citizens in pursuing education abroad. International applicants should check the various governmental resources in their home country, such as the Department of Education, for available scholarships.

Working while studying

The possibility to pursue work to supplement income may depend on the demands the program has on students. It should be carefully weighed if work leads to prolonged program durations or whether work placements can be meaningfully embedded into a program.

International students enrolled as full-time students with a valid study permit can work on campus for unlimited hours and work off-campus for no more than 20 hours a week.

A good starting point to explore student jobs is the UBC Work Learn program or a Co-Op placement .

Tax credits and RRSP withdrawals

Students with taxable income in Canada may be able to claim federal or provincial tax credits.

Canadian residents with RRSP accounts may be able to use the Lifelong Learning Plan (LLP) which allows students to withdraw amounts from their registered retirement savings plan (RRSPs) to finance full-time training or education for themselves or their partner.

Supply chain management incorporates the core areas of logistics management, operations management and supply management.

The PhD in business administration with a concentration in supply chain management is a full-time residential program for students whose career goals are full-time university research and teaching. The curriculum guides students in conducting high-quality research and teaching at the university level.

Students are trained to develop the capability to recognize problems related to supply chain management and frame these problems into research questions, which are then addressed in a scholarly way, and they are required to review, analyze, conduct and publish research. They are prepared to do this through a series of doctoral seminars and research methods courses and by participating in active research projects. Students also develop their teaching skills through assignments as teaching assistants or instructors. Teaching assignments typically take place during the last two years of the program.

84 credit hours, a written comprehensive exam, a prospectus and a dissertation

The doctoral program requires the completion of coursework, the completion of academic papers for submission to journals, a comprehensive exam and a dissertation. The program is generally viewed as a five-year process. Most students serve in research assistantships for all five years. During the program, students are expected to actively participate in required courses as well as in seminars and presentations from colleagues, department faculty and visiting scholars.

Students also have the opportunity to teach courses during their doctoral program. Teaching assistantships typically are made available during the last two years of the program. This allows doctoral degree students to get research projects and manuscripts into the multiyear pipeline typical of accepted research articles. Through areas of excellence, centers and the faculty, the supply chain management program has special opportunities for industry-based research projects.

Coursework The program consists of a minimum of 84 credit hours of approved graduate coursework beyond the bachelor's degree. The department requires doctoral students to take 48 credit hours of graduate coursework in residence at ASU during their first two years. The specific classes must be approved by faculty members in the students' areas of excellence. Students are also required to take 12 hours of research and 12 hours of dissertation credit. A maximum of 12 credit hours can be transferred from previous graduate coursework. Moreover, students' plans of study must be approved in advance by their program chair.

Academic Papers Students are expected to work on academic papers for submission to journals during their doctoral program. Summer months are intended for manuscript writing for those students who have yet to successfully defend their dissertation proposals. At the end of each summer, all doctoral students are required to have at least one new manuscript ready for submission to a journal for publication. Faculty in the areas of excellence supervise manuscript planning and writing. The bulk of the writing is done during the summer by the students. Faculty in the students' areas of excellence evaluate the papers and provide detailed feedback and instructions for rewriting of papers.

Comprehensive Examinations Upon completion of all necessary coursework on a student's approved plan of study, the academic unit may initiate the scheduling and administering of a student's comprehensive examinations. The comprehensive examinations consist of a minimum of a written exam, and an oral exam also may be required at the discretion of the academic unit.

Candidacy Doctoral students are notified of achieving candidacy status when they receive a letter from the dean of the Graduate College upon passing the comprehensive examinations and successfully defending the dissertation prospectus.

Dissertation Requirements Students are required to present a dissertation to satisfy the research requirement for the doctorate. The dissertation is defended in an oral examination commonly known as the dissertation defense.

Students must be enrolled for at least one credit hour that appears on the plan of study or one hour of appropriate graduate-level credit, such as 795 Continuing Registration, during the semester (including a summer session) in which the student defends the dissertation.

For detailed information regarding the university's doctoral degree requirements, students should refer to the Graduate College policies and procedures .

Maximum Time Limit Doctoral students must complete all program requirements within 10 consecutive years.

Applicants must fulfill the requirements of both the Graduate College and the W. P. Carey School of Business.

Applicants are eligible to apply to the program if they have earned a bachelor's or master's degree from a regionally accredited institution.

Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of a 3.00 (scale is 4.00 = "A") in the last 60 hours of their first bachelor's degree program, or a minimum cumulative GPA of a 3.00 (scale is 4.00 = "A") in an applicable master's degree program.

• letters of recommendation
• a personal statement
• proof of English proficiency

Additional Application Information An applicant whose native language is not English must provide proof of English proficiency regardless of their current residency.

ASU does not accept the GRE® General Test at home edition.

Applications are initially reviewed by a faculty committee using a portfolio approach. Materials are reviewed to ensure a good fit between students' goals and research interests and those of the department. Doctor of Philosophy in Logistics & Supply Chain Management (PHDLOGISCM) with 18 specializations is a dual degree program that combines an Ofqual Recognised Awarding Organisation and Université Libérale de Paris. The PHDLOGISCM is the highest degree in practical academia and science specializing in logistics and supply chain management.

The Doctor of Philosophy in Logistics & Supply Chain Management (PHDLOGISCM) has 18 specializations that focus on in-depth research knowledge in logistics and supply chain management. Students have access to research from the start, with topics that are highly practical and applied.

Unlike the Professional Doctor program, students must have at least one scientific article published in ISI/SCOPUS journals, journals owned by the Liberal University of Paris, or journals linked to.

The Doctor of Philosophy in Logistics & Supply Chain Management at the Université Libérale de Paris (Paris-U) is a dual qualification program.

Graduates will receive:

• LRN Level 8 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership.

Distinction in accreditation:

The Doctor of Philosophy in Logistics & Supply Chain Management program is a dual-degree program, resulting in the completion of two distinct degrees. The program is a cooperation between the Ofqual-accredited UK national competency framework accreditation system and Université Libérale de Paris (Paris-U). Both institutions are institutionally and programmatically accredited.

• The Université Libérale de Paris (Paris-U) is certified at the highest level of the Premier Institute by the HEAD (High Education Accreditation Department), and at the program level by the examination system and granting of British national certificates by level (Awarding bodies of Ofqual, UK. Gov).
• LRN is one of the prestigious institutions granting national qualifications in the UK, accredited by Ofqual, UK. Gov.

Distinctions in learning method:

All the programs is applied the Liberal Education pedagogy for graduated learners.

The program is two years long. The method of instruction consists of a combination of globally livestreamed lectures (Live Class) with instructors.

The Ph.D program, unlike the D.LogiSCM programs, requires a minimum of one academic journal published on the ISI/SCOPUS system or on journals owned or affiliated with Paris-U.

Students who complete the Doctor of Philosophy in  Logistics & Supply Chain Management (PHDLOGISCM)  dual degree program can:

Be able to conduct research relevant to the context of the specialization.

• Assess the significance, practicability, and research potential of the problem to be investigated.
• Develop and modify research objectives to suit orientation, research objectives, and research time constraints.
• Analyze, consider alternatives, and make appropriate research decisions.

2. Be able to collect, organize, and choose theoretical foundations for PhD research projects

• Collect theoretical foundations related to the research topic.
• Organize and develop theoretical foundation structures for research topics.

3. Be able to design an entire study.

• Know how to conduct a literature review and select relevant studies to support the proposed research.
• Design the research in accordance with the research objectives, research questions, and time frame.
• Adjust the chosen research methodology while keeping research ethics and feasibility in mind.

4. Be able to create a research proposal and carry out research.

• Examine theoretical foundations and research models when developing research questions.

The doctoral programs at Université Libérale de Paris are designed with a training time of 2 to 5 years or more, culminating in a PhD thesis that meets international standards.

When participating in the PhD program in conjunction with the UK qualification system Level 8 Diploma, graduate students can choose between two training programs: Specialized Doctor of Philosophy in Logistics & Supply Chain Management (PHDLOGISCM) or Specialized Doctor of Logistics & Supply Chain Management (D.LogiSCM).

Despite sharing the same specialization, the Doctor of Philosophy in Logistics & Supply Chain Management (PHDLOGISCM) and Doctor of Logistics & Supply Chain Management (D.LogiSCM) have many differences. Some of the fundamental differences are as follows:

Candidates who register for the program will be considered by the application department before joining the program, in addition to the entry requirements, to ensure that they understand and benefit from the program.

Entry requirements must meet at least one of the following criteria:

• Master’s degrees in specific fields from accredited universities. The appraisal procedures will be carried out by Paris-U or our local partner for domestic universities that do not have international accreditation.
• RQF (UK), EQF (Europe), or Level 7 diploma equivalents must be obtained from accredited institutions.
• The Université Libérale de Paris does not accept degrees from fake universities, Diploma Mills, accredited universities, or discredited accrediting organizations.

English language requirements:

• English at or above CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) level B2.
• IELTS 5.5; Speaking and writing must both be 5.5 or higher.
• In the absence of an English certificate, the Université Libérale de Paris (Paris-U) and its partner will perform an internal English test and evaluate each candidate.

The Université Libérale de Paris (Paris-U) reserves the right to accept or reject applications based on accrediting agency requirements and Paris-U’s global acceptance target.

The Université Libérale de Paris (Paris-U) is a university that is HEAD-accredited at the institution level and the UK RQF framework at the program level. At the programmatic level, Paris-U is endorsed by the LRN, an awarding body recognized by the UK government. After completing the program, students may confidently enter the job market, continue their education, and seamlessly transfer to other prominent and similar educational systems because the curriculum and degrees are rigorously approved by prestigious organizations.

The Université Libérale de Paris (Paris-U) specialized Doctor of Philosphy in Logistics & Supply Chain Management (PHDLOGISCM) is equivalent to Level 8 Diploma of the EQF European Qualification Framework and is assessed using the Paris-U accreditation system.

The specialized Doctor of Philosphy in Logistics & Supply Chain Management (PHDLOGISCM) degree is one of the highest academic degrees. When combined with the dual degree system, which combines a UK Level Diploma and a Doctor of Philosphy in Logistics & Supply Chain Management (PHDLOGISCM) from the Université Libérale de Paris, research students can pursue a career as a specialist or research specialist in theory and practice, become a lecturer, or advance to senior positions in the labor market.

Students can participate in PostDoc programs based on the fields of research they want to develop if they want to conduct international research, publish international articles on the ISI, SCOPUS system, and so on.

Graduate students can also publish books, studies developed during their studies, or research that comes up during their studies.

After completing the Doctor of Philosphy in Logistics & Supply Chain Management (PHDLOGISCM) program at Universit Paris, students will be awarded the following:

• Senior Leader Certified (UK Gov Standard No. ST0480)
• Research Scientist Certified (UK Gov Standard No. ST0759). Graduates can apply for these accreditations without taking the annual EPA examinations and exams conducted by the Senior Leader Council.
• Students are full-time Université Libérale de Paris students (Paris-U).
• Students pursue the original program as full-time students at Université Libérale de Paris in France (Paris-U).
• The program is entirely taught in English. Université Libérale de Paris (Paris-U) does not adopt the education system for French-taught programs in France.
• Degrees awarded by Université Libérale de Paris (Paris-U) are classified as private university degrees. Université Libérale de Paris (Paris-U) degrees are not part of the public education system, not owned by the French government, and is not part of the France-based higher education system.
• This is not an affiliate program, nor is it a Vietnamese-taught international program.
• Local lecturers are not involved in teaching. Local activities are only for academic support.

Students in the logistics doctoral program at Broad work closely with faculty from the onset of their program to ensure the best preparation for academic life – including working on supply chain management research projects that eventually lead to publications in top-tier academic journals. The program links the traditional areas of logistics research and development with faculty expertise in the areas of demand management and forecasting, logistics operations and modeling, logistics strategy and relationship management. Both empirical and analytical methods are examined in the program to provide students with the skill sets necessary to succeed in their chosen stream of research.

Spring College International was established in 2001. It is registered with Singapore’s Committee for Private Education (CPE) is part of SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) and awarded with 4-years Edutrust Certificate.

Diploma / Advanced Diploma in Logistics and Supply Chain Management

To equip students with knowledge about procurement processes, international trade regulations, and the application of statistical methods in business analysis. Through a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical applications, this Diploma program prepares students for various roles in logistics, supply chain management, and related business functions. Graduates will be well-equipped to handle the challenges of modern logistics operations and contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of supply chain processes.

Course Outline

There are 6 modules:

• Business Law & Ethics
• Principles of Management
• Financial Accounting
• Logistics Management
• Procurement Management
• Global Supply Chain Transportation

Pre-requisites

• Age : 16 years old and above
• Academic Level : At least 10 years of formal education or equivalent, or pass SCI’s placement test, or one year and above of relevant work experience
• Language Proficiency : English Language of IELTS 5.5 and above, or GCE O-Level grade C6 or better, or pass SCI’s language proficiency test or equivalent.

Course Duration

• 6 months institution study + 6 months industrial attachment (internship)
• 15 hours of lesson time per week

Course Certification

Upon completion of all 6 modules, those who fulfilled the required attendance and pass all academic assessments will be awarded with a Diploma in Logistics and Supply Chain Management Certificate by Spring College International.

Acquire knowledge and analytical skills to build a thriving career in supply chain management and logistics through this one-year master’s programme. This programme has been developed as part of a unique collaboration between Loughborough University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Centre for Transportation and Logistics (MIT CTL). Our MSc combines the latest academic theory with sought-after practical skills and opportunities to gain industry experience through a supply chain management consultancy project.

Loughborough University is the only UK-based centre of the MIT Global SCALE Network . At the core of the Centre offering is an MSc in Supply Chain Management. Graduates will earn an MSc degree from Loughborough University and will receive a Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management Certificate awarded by the MIT Global SCALE Network upon graduation. Additionally, graduates will gain Associate Alumni status from MIT, providing access to certain privileges within the MIT Alumni Association, such as the online alumni directory and networking opportunities.

A central component of the programme is the MIT SCALE Connect residential, which takes place over three weeks at the MIT campus in Boston Massachusetts, and involves participants from across the Global SCALE Network. During this period, students will engage in a series of career development workshops, seminars, and industry talks. They will also receive advanced training in areas such as data visualisation, Python, machine learning, and Llamasoft, and participate in facility tours and team-based challenges. The residential concludes with a Research Expo, where students present their work on industry-sponsored and other real-world research projects.

The importance of supply chain management

Supply chains are the arteries of global trade. As the world becomes more connected than ever, integrated supply chains form complex networks susceptible to external factors and disruptions. Today’s businesses are not only faced with the challenge of seamless delivery of goods and services at a reasonable cost to their customers but also with the need to consider principles and practices of the circular economy to ensure the sustainability of their operations. These challenges, coupled with a dynamic international environment, require managers with a high capability to design, plan, and manage supply chain operations using the power of analytical methods and data science.

The MSc in Supply Chain Management is suited to applicants with an undergraduate degree in fields such as supply chain management and logistics, transportation, business administration, management, economics, industrial and other relevant engineering disciplines, statistics, operational research, computer science, or mathematics. Alternatively, you can build additional analytical and programming skills through this programme if you have professional experience in supply chain analytics.

Learn how to apply key methods to solve supply chain management problems

Our programme is designed to equip you with a range of analytical skills and techniques frequently used to address supply chain management problems. You will have the chance to gain hands-on experience in applying these methods to solve problems in a variety of supply chain operations, including demand forecasting, inventory management, logistics and transportation planning, and network design. Central to the ethos of the programme is a focus on real-world case studies and scenarios.

The programme content focuses on core methods in mathematical modelling and optimisation, statistics, data analysis, and machine learning. In addition to enhancing your analytical knowledge, you will also improve your programming skills and hence your employability. The Capstone project will afford you the chance to work with other students, engage with industry and real-world challenges to apply your skills solving a live supply chain business problem.

Explore contemporary supply chain management challenges

Throughout the programme, you will explore contemporary challenges impacting supply chain and logistics operations with a global focus. Themes such as digitalisation, supply chain resilience, environmental sustainability, and net zero will be analysed in detail from both a problem-solving and contextual perspective. By examining and tackling various supply chain problems with multiple objectives and resource limitations, you will gain a better understanding of the role of the contemporary supply chain manager.

Gain practical experience through the Capstone project

A central part of the MSc Supply Chain Management is the Capstone project. In this project, you will have the opportunity to apply your learning from semesters one and two to a live supply chain management problem in coordination with industry experts and researchers. This will allow you to improve your research skills, critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork and project management abilities. Furthermore, the Capstone project will be a platform for you to demonstrate your achievements in this programme to current or potential employers and make valuable connections through peer-to-peer networking.

Our entry requirements are listed using standard UK undergraduate degree classifications i.e. first-class honours, upper second-class honours and lower second-class honours. To learn the equivalent for your country, please choose it from the drop-down below.

Entry requirements for United Kingdom

2:2 honours degree with a minimum of 55% (preferably in one of the following disciplines: operational research, engineering, computer science, mathematics, economics, business and management). Applicants from other disciplines may be considered on a case-by-case basis provided that they can show strong quantitative ability.

Relevant professional qualifications and/or experience will also be considered.

Please note that there are additional essential costs associated with this programme for attendance at the SCALE Connect residential, which are not included in the tuition fees:

• Accommodation in the US : approximately £2,000 for a three-week stay at the MIT campus. This amount is payable separately to Loughborough University, which will manage the hotel payment on behalf of the students.
• US Visitor Visa : currently $185 applicable processing fee.
• Flights : Return flights to Boston from the UK or your home country are variable depending on location.
• Insurance : Insurance costs will vary based on the student's choice. The University covers some aspects of the international trip, but students are advised to purchase supplementary insurance that covers personal belongings from loss, theft, and breakage. Note that winter/extreme sports are not covered under the University’s policy.
• Airport transfers : Options include a shuttle bus (10 minutes, £28-40) or a public bus (30 minutes, £1-4).
• Meals : Breakfast is included in the accommodation. Students will need to cover the cost of lunch and most evening meals. It is recommended to budget approximately $350 for three weeks, considering options such as campus cafeterias, local restaurants, and grocery stores.

One of the unique features of this programme comes from being an integral part of the UK SCALE Centre , which is a key component of the MIT Global SCALE Network . This collaboration provides important networking opportunities with industry representatives, fellow students from other universities in the SCALE network, and researchers from a wide range of disciplines. As part of the master’s study, you will travel to the MIT campus in the USA in January to attend a series of talks, activities, and other events. During this exciting period, you will have the chance to improve your interpersonal, networking, and leadership skills.

Additional support and opportunities

We will offer a variety of co-curricular activities in Loughborough Business School tailored to address issues around employability in a competitive and uncertain job market. There will be various workshops and sessions to provide guidance on career planning, CV writing, and interview preparation. Prior to joining Loughborough, Cihan worked in the EU-funded PortForward project on the green scheduling and sustainability of container terminal operations. Cihan also has industrial experience in the maritime shipping sector from working in the international trading arm of Heidelberg Cement.

Grammatoula has published in leading academic journals, became a Co-Investigator on a major ESRC grant worth £1million and established extensive links with external partner organisations.

Dr Nikolaos Argyris

Nikos’s research interests broadly lie in the interface and applications of mathematical optimisation, decision theory/analysis and economics.

Professor Baibing Li

Professor of business statistics and management science.

Baibing’s research focuses on statistical machine learning and data mining covering a wide range of topics such as predictive modelling, dimension reduction, and forecasting.

Professor Victor Podinovski

Professor of operational research.

Victor’s main research interests lie in the area of nonparametric assessment of efficiency and productivity of organisations, known as data envelopment analysis (DEA).

Dr Jacob Msughter Gwa

University teacher in management science and operations.

Dr Gwa teaches in operations management, quantitative business skills, and global logistics and supply chain management.

Professor Jiyin Liu

Professor of operations management.

Jiyin has been working on modelling and optimisation of operations planning and scheduling problems in logistics and production systems. Most of Jiyin’s research has been driven by practical problems in industry.

My classmates are from all over the world, and people are so open and fun to be around. It’s a fantastic study environment and I’ve found lots of new friends.

I did my bachelor degree at JIBS as well, and I haven’t regretted that I decided to stay for master’s! JIBS gives so many opportunities for exchange studies, and I think the fact that I’ve spent several semesters abroad will be an advantage for me in the future. It shows that I’m adaptable, open and not afraid of challenges and of trying new things. I went to both Montreal and Portsmouth during my bachelor studies and next semester I’m going to Lyon in France.

Studying on this level is different from what I’m used to, and I really like it. The classes are smaller and we work very project oriented with lots of case studies. In some courses the literature only consists of scholarly articles, which means it’s really up to date with research.

I think my experiences from JIBS will be great for me in my future career!
