The increase in the average temperature of the earth’s surface during the last century is referred to as global warming. One of the reasons that global warming is problematic is that it disrupts the planet’s general ecology. Floods, starvation, cyclones, and other natural disasters are the outcome. This warming has various causes and consequences, and it poses a threat to life on Earth.

Global warming, which is caused by greenhouse gases that trap solar radiation in the atmosphere, has the potential to alter the whole map of the globe, displacing people, flooding numerous countries, and eliminating a wide range of lifeforms. Extreme weather is a direct result of global warming, but it is far from the only one. Global warming has an almost infinite number of repercussions, all of which are destructive to life on Earth.

ग्लोबल वार्मिंग पर IPCC की रिपोर्ट

हाल ही में जलवायु परिवर्तन पर अंतर-सरकारी पैनल (IPCC) द्वारा एक विशेष रिपोर्ट जारी की गई है। गौरतलब है कि इसे विशेष रूप से ग्लोबल वार्मिंग पर पेरिस समझौते में तय किये गए 1.5 डिग्री सेल्सियस तापमान की वैज्ञानिक व्यवहार्यता का पता लगाने के लिये अधिकृत किया गया था। जारी की गई IPCC की आकलन रिपोर्ट ने धरती के भविष्य की खतरनाक तस्वीर का अनुमान लगाया है।

महत्त्वपूर्ण बिंदु

IPCC की इस रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक उत्सर्जन को कम करके 1.5 डिग्री सेल्सियस के लक्ष्य को पूरी तरह से प्राप्त करना असंभव हो गया है।
इस रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक, उत्सर्जन की वर्तमान दर यदि बरकरार रही तो ग्लोबल वार्मिंग 2030 से 2052 के बीच 1.5 डिग्री सेल्सियस को भी पार कर जाएगा। पूर्व-औद्योगिक युग के मुकाबले वर्तमान में ग्लोबल वार्मिंग 1.2 डिग्री सेल्सियस ज़्यादा है।
2015 में विभिन्न देशों ने तापमान वृद्धि को 1.5 डिग्री सेल्सियस के अंदर रखने की संभावनाओं का पता लगाने हेतु इस रिपोर्ट के लिये अनुरोध किया था। यह कई छोटे और गरीब देशों, विशेष रूप से छोटे द्वीप पर स्थित देशों द्वारा की गई प्रमुख मांग थी। ऐसे देश जलवायु परिवर्तन के प्रभावों से ज़्यादा पीड़ित होते हैं।
इस रिपोर्ट के प्रमुख संदेशों में से एक यह है कि ग्लोबल वार्मिंग के मात्र 1 डिग्री सेल्सियस तापमान के कारण हम पहले से ही मौसम में उतार-चढ़ाव, समुद्र का बढ़ता जल-स्तर और आर्कटिक बर्फ के गायब होने जैसे दुष्प्रभावों का सामना कर रहे हैं।
फिलहाल, दुनिया 2015 के पेरिस समझौते के घोषित उद्देश्य के अनुसार, ग्लोबल वार्मिंग में 2 डिग्री सेल्सियस से अधिक वृद्धि को रोकने के लिये प्रयास कर रही है। इस लक्ष्य को पूरा करने के लिये, 2010 के मुकाबले ग्रीनहाउस गैस स्तर को 2030 तक मात्र 20 प्रतिशत कम करना है और वर्ष 2075 तक कुल शून्य उत्सर्जन स्तर का लक्ष्य प्राप्त करना है।
कुल शून्य उत्सर्जन तब हासिल किया जा सकेगा जब कुल उत्सर्जित कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड की मात्रा को जंगलों जैसे प्राकृतिक अवशोषकों द्वारा अवशोषित कर संतुलित कर लिया जाएगा या तकनीकी हस्तक्षेप के द्वारा वातावरण से कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड को हटा दिया जाएगा।
पिछली रिपोर्टों में, जो कि पर्यावरण को लेकर वैश्विक कार्रवाई का आधार बनीं, IPCC ने कहा है कि यदि वैश्विक औसत तापमान 2 डिग्री सेल्सियस से अधिक हो जाता है तो जलवायु परिवर्तन "अपरिवर्तनीय" और "विनाशकारी" हो सकता है।

तटीय राष्ट्रों और एशिया तथा अफ्रीका की कृषि अर्थव्यवस्था सबसे ज़्यादा प्रभावित होगी। फसल की पैदावार में गिरावट, अभूतपूर्व जलवायु अस्थिरता और संवेदनशीलता 2050 तक गरीबी को बढ़ाकर कई सौ मिलियन के आँकड़े तक पहुँचा सकती है।
भारतीय तटों पर समुद्री जल-स्तर में प्रति दशक 1 सेमी की वृद्धि दर्ज की गई है। मॉनसून की तीव्रता के साथ हिमखंडों का त्वरित गति से पिघलना हिमालयी क्षेत्रों में प्राकृतिक आपदाओं का कारण बन सकता है।
ग्लोबल वार्मिंग को 2 डिग्री सेल्सियस तक पहुँचने से रोकने पर होने वाले फायदे- ♦ समुद्री जल-स्तर की वृद्धि दर में कमी। ♦ खाद्य उत्पादकता, फसल पैदावार, जल संकट, स्वास्थ्य संबंधी खतरे और आर्थिक संवृद्धि के संदर्भ में जलवायु से जुड़े खतरों में कमी की संभावना। ♦ आर्कटिक महासागर में समुद्री बर्फ के पिघलने की दर में कमी।
ग्लोबल वार्मिंग को 1.5 डिग्री सेल्सियस पर सीमित करने हेतु चार अनुमानित तरीके - प्रत्येक माध्यम से इस सदी का तापमान अंत तक अनुमानित स्तर पर लौटने से पहले 1.5 डिग्री सेल्सियस से कुछ अधिक होने का अनुमान है। इन तरीकों में वैश्विक ऊर्जा की मांग का एक अलग परिदृश्य दिखता है-
ऐसी स्थिति जिसमें खासकर दक्षिणी ग्लोब में सामाजिक, व्यापार संबंधी और तकनीकी नवाचारों के परिणामस्वरूप 2050 तक ऊर्जा की मांग में कमी होगी, जबकि जीवन स्तर में वृद्धि होगी। ऊर्जा-आपूर्ति प्रणाली के आकार का न्यूनीकरण कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड को तेज़ी से कम करने में सक्षम बनाता है। वनीकरण एकमात्र CDR का विकल्प माना जाता है, जिसमें न तो CCS और न ही BECCS युक्त जीवाश्म ईंधन का उपयोग होता है।
इसमें ऊर्जा तीव्रता, मानव विकास, आर्थिक अभिसरण और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सहयोग सहित सतत् विकास पर ध्यान देना शामिल है। इसमें BECCS के लिये सीमित सामाजिक स्वीकार्यता वाले टिकाऊ और स्वस्थ उपभोग पैटर्न, कम कार्बन युक्त प्रौद्योगिकी नवाचार तथा सुनियोजित प्रबंधित भूमि प्रणालियों की ओर झुकाव भी शामिल है।
एक मध्य मार्ग जिसमें सामाजिक तथा तकनीकी विकास ऐतिहासिक प्रक्रिया का पालन करते हैं। उत्सर्जन में कमी मुख्य रूप से ऊर्जा और उत्पादों के उत्पादन के तरीकों को बदलकर तथा मांग में कटौती के द्वारा लाई जा सकती है।
उत्सर्जन में कमी मुख्य रूप से तकनीकी माध्यमों के द्वारा हासिल की जाती है, जिसमें BECCS के इस्तेमाल द्वारा CDR का प्रभावी तरीके से उपयोग होता है।
कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड रिमूवल (सीडीआर) के लिये तकनीकें अभी भी अविकसित हैं। वायुमंडल में कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड की मात्रा 100 से 1000 गीगाटन (बिलियन टन) के बीच है जिसे हटाया जाना है। वर्तमान में पूरी दुनिया 47 बिलियन टन कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड का उत्सर्जन करती है।
कार्बन उत्सर्जन को रोकने के लिये ऊर्जा, भूमि, शहरी अवसंरचना (परिवहन और भवनों सहित) तथा औद्योगिक प्रणालियों में तीव्र एवं दूरगामी नजरिये से बदलाव की आवश्यकता है।
विकासशील देशों को बड़े पैमाने पर कार्बन उत्सर्जन से बचना चाहिये, जबकि विकसित देशों को अपने देश में ऐसी खपत पर रोक लगानी चाहिये, जो कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड के उत्सर्जन को बढ़ावा देती हो।
वैश्विक रूप से कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड को कम करने के लिये अर्थव्यवस्था के कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड-गहन क्षेत्रों में कम कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड उत्सर्जित करने वाली तकनीक, ऊर्जा दक्ष मशीनों और कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड अवशोषकों को शामिल करना होगा।

गैसों का उत्सर्जन- विनिर्माण और उद्योग उत्सर्जन का उत्पादन करते हैं। निर्माण उद्योग की तरह खनन और अन्य औद्योगिक प्रक्रियाएं भी गैसें छोड़ती हैं। विनिर्माण प्रक्रिया में उपयोग की जाने वाली मशीनें अक्सर कोयला, तेल या गैस पर चलती हैं; और कुछ सामग्रियां, जैसे प्लास्टिक, जीवाश्म ईंधन से प्राप्त रसायनों से बनाई जाती हैं। ग्रीनहाउस गैस उत्सर्जन की वजह से जलवायु काफी परिवर्तित हो रही है।
वनों की कटाई- खेतों या चरागाहों के निर्माण के लिए या अन्य कारणों से जंगलों को काटने से उत्सर्जन होता है, क्योंकि जब पेड़ों को काटा जाता है, तो वह अपने द्वारा संग्रहीत कार्बन छोड़ते हैं। रिपोर्ट्स के मुताबिक, हर साल लगभग 12 मिलियन हेक्टेयर जंगल नष्ट हो जाते हैं। वनों की कटाई, वैश्विक ग्रीनहाउस गैस उत्सर्जन के लगभग एक चौथाई के लिए जिम्मेदार है।
परिवहन का ज्यादा उपयोग- अधिकांश कारें, ट्रक, जहाज और विमान जीवाश्म ईंधन पर चलते हैं। यह परिवहन को ग्रीनहाउस गैसों, विशेषकर कार्बन-डाइऑक्साइड उत्सर्जन का एक प्रमुख कारण है। जहाजों और विमानों से उत्सर्जन लगातार बढ़ रहा है।
भोजन उत्पादन (फूड मैन्युफैक्चरिंग) में गैसों का उत्सर्जन- भोजन के उत्पादन में ग्रीनहाउस गैसों के उत्सर्जन का कारण शामिल है। जीवाश्म ईंधन के साथ कृषि उपकरण या मछली पकड़ने वाली नौकाओं को चलाने के लिए ऊर्जा का उपयोग। यह सब भोजन उत्पादन यानी फूड मैन्युफैक्चरिंग को जलवायु परिवर्तन का प्रमुख कारण बनाता है। ग्रीनहाउस गैस उत्सर्जन भोजन की पैकेजिंग और वितरण से भी होता है।
बिजली खपत- विश्व स्तर पर आवासीय और व्यावसायिक बिल्डिंग आधी से अधिक बिजली की खपत करती हैं। ये बिल्डिंग हीटिंग और कूलिंग के लिए कोयला, तेल और प्राकृतिक गैस का उपयोग करती हैं, इसलिए काफी मात्रा में ग्रीनहाउस गैस उत्सर्जन होता है।

जलवायु परिवर्तन के प्रभाव क्या हैं?

जंगलों, खेतों और शहरों को परेशान करने वाले नए कीटों, भारी बारिश और बढ़ती बाढ़ का सामना करना पड़ेगा। ये सभी कृषि और मत्स्य पालन को नुकसान पहुंचा सकते हैं या नष्ट कर सकते हैं।
जलवायु परिवर्तन मूंगा चट्टानों और अल्पाइन घास के मैदानों, जैसे- आवासों का विघटन, कई पौधों और जानवरों की प्रजातियों को विलुप्त होने की ओर ले जा सकता है।
पराग-उत्पादक रैगवीड की बढ़ती वृद्धि, वायु प्रदूषण के उच्च स्तर और रोगजनकों और मच्छरों के लिए अनुकूल स्थितियों के प्रसार के कारण एलर्जी, अस्थमा और संक्रामक रोग का प्रकोप अधिक हो जाएगा।

और इस समस्या से निपटने के लिए प्रत्येक देश कुछ ना कुछ उपाय लगातार कर रहा है परंतु यह ग्लोबल वार्मिंग घटने की बजाय निरंतर बढ़ ही रहा है। इस समस्या से निपटने के लिये लोगों को इसका अर्थ, कारण और प्रभाव पता होना चाहिये जिससे जल्द से जल्द इसके समाधान तक पहुँचा जा सके। इससे मुकाबला करने के लिये हम सभी को एक साथ आगे आना चाहिए और धरती पर जीवन को बचाने के लिये इसका समाधान करना चाहिए।

धरती के वातावरण में तापमान के लगातार हो रही विश्वव्यापी बढ़ोतरी को ग्लोबल वार्मिंग कहते हैं। दूसरे शब्दों में – जब वायुमंडल में कार्बन-डाइऑक्साइड की मात्रा बढ़ जाती है तो वायुमंडल के तापमान में बढ़ोतरी हो जाती है। तापमान में हुए इस बदलाव को ग्लोबल वार्मिंग कहा जाता है।

ग्लोबल का अर्थ है ‘पृथ्वी’ और वॉर्मिंग का अर्थ है ‘गर्म’। भूमंडलीय ऊष्मीकरण (या ग्‍लोबल वॉर्मिंग) का अर्थ पृथ्वी की निकटस्‍थ-सतह वायु और महासागर के औसत तापमान में 20वीं शताब्‍दी से हो रही वृद्धि और उसकी अनुमानित निरंतरता है। आसान शब्दों में समझें तो ग्लोबल वार्मिंग का अर्थ है ‘पृथ्वी के तापमान में वृद्धि और इसके कारण मौसम में होने वाले परिवर्तन’। पृथ्वी के तापमान में हो रही इस वृद्धि (जिसे 100 सालों के औसत तापमान पर 10 फारेनहाईट आँका गया है) के परिणाम स्वरूप बारिश के तरीकों में बदलाव, हिमखण्डों और ग्लेशियरों के पिघलने, समुद्र के जल-स्तर में वृद्धि और वनस्पति तथा जन्तु जगत पर प्रभावों के रूप के सामने आ सकते हैं।

ग्लोबल वार्मिंग के कारण होने वाले जलवायु परिवर्तन के लिए सबसे अधिक जिम्मेदार ग्रीन हाउस गैसें हैं । ग्रीन हाउस गैसें वे गैसें होती हैं, जो सूर्य से मिल रही गर्मी को अपने अंदर सोख लेती हैं । ग्रीन हाउस गैसों में सबसे ज्यादा महत्वपूर्ण गैस कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड है, जिसे हम जीवित प्राणी अपनी सांस के साथ उत्सर्जन करते हैं। पर्यावरण वैज्ञानिकों के अनुसार पृथ्वी के वायुमंडल में कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड की मात्रा बढ़ रही है। दूसरी ग्रीनहाउस गैसें हैं – नाइट्रोजन ऑक्साइड, CFCs क्लोरिन और ब्रोमाईन कम्पाउंड आदि। ये सभी वातावरण में एक साथ मिल जाते हैं और वातावरण के रेडियोएक्टिव संतुलन को बिगाड़ते हैं। उनके पास गर्म विकीकरण को सोखने की क्षमता है जिससे धरती की सतह गर्म होने लगती है।

जनसंख्या वृद्धि

जनसंख्या वृद्धि भी वायुमंडल के तापमान को बढ़ाने में महत्वपूर्ण योगदान देती है क्योंकि एक रिपोर्ट के अनुसार ग्लोबल वार्मिंग में 90 प्रतिशत योगदान मानवजनित कार्बन उत्सर्जन का है।

मनुष्य अपनी सुविधाओं के लिए प्रकृति से छेड़छाड़ करता रहता है। मनुष्य ने धरती के वातावरण को संतुलित बनाए रखने वाले पेड़-पौधों को काट कर वातावरण को अत्याधिक गर्म कर दिया है , जिसके कारण समुद्र का जल-स्तर बढ़ रहा है, समुद्र के इस तरह जल-स्तर बढ़ने से दुनिया के कई हिस्से जल में लीन हो जाएंगे भारी तबाही मचेगी यह किसी विश्व युद्ध या किसी “एस्टेरॉयड” के पृथ्वी से टकराने से होने वाली तबाही से भी ज्यादा भयानक तबाही होगी।यह हमारी पृथ्वी के लिए बहुत ही हानिकारक सिद्ध होगा।

ओजोन परत में कमी आना

अंर्टाटिका में ओजोन परत में कमी आना भी ग्लोबल वार्मिंग का एक कारण है। CFC गैस के बढ़ने से ओजोन परत में कमी आ रही है। ये ग्लोबल वार्मिंग का मानव जनित कारण है। CFC गैस का इस्तेमाल कई जगहों पर औद्योगिक तरल सफाई में एरोसॉल प्रणोदक की तरह और फ्रिज में होता है, जिसके नियमित बढ़ने से ओजोन परत में कमी आती है।

ओजोन परत का काम धरती को नुकसान दायक किरणों से बचाना है। जबकि, धरती के सतह की ग्लोबल वार्मिंग बढ़ना इस बात का संकेत है कि ओजोन परत में क्षरण हो रहा है। सूरज की हानिकारक अल्ट्रा वॉइलेट किरणें जीवमंडल में प्रवेश कर जाती है और ग्रीनहाउस गैसों के द्वारा उसे सोख लिया जाता है जिससे अंतत: ग्लोबल वार्मिंग में बढ़ौतरी होती है।

उर्वरक और कीटनाशक

खेतों में फसलों को कीड़ों से बचाने के लिए इस्तेमाल की जाने वाली उर्वरक और कीटनाशक पर्यावरण के लिए हानिकारक है। ये केवल मिट्टी को ही प्रदूषित नहीं करते बल्कि पर्यावरण में कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड, मीथेन और नाइट्रस ऑक्साइड जैसी गैसों को छोड़ते हैं जो ग्लोबल वार्मिंग के लिए ज़िम्मेवार हैं।

ग्लोबल वार्मिंग का प्रभाव

(i) ग्लोबल वार्मिंग के बढ़ने के साधनों के कारण कुछ वर्षों में इसका प्रभाव बिल्कुल स्पष्ट हो चुका है। अमेरिका के भूगर्भीय सर्वेक्षणों के अनुसार, मोंटाना ग्लेशियर राष्ट्रीय पार्क में 150 ग्लेशियर हुआ करते थे लेकिन इसके प्रभाव की वजह से अब सिर्फ 25 ही बचे हैं । (ii) बड़े जलवायु परिवर्तन से तूफान अब और खतरनाक और शक्तिशाली होता जा रहा है । तापमान अंतर से ऊर्जा लेकर प्राकृतिक तूफान बहुत ज्यादा शक्तिशाली हो जा रहे है। 1895 के बाद से साल 2012 को सबसे गर्म साल के रुप में दर्ज किया गया है और साल 2003 के साथ 2013 को 1880 के बाद से सबसे गर्म साल के रुप में दर्ज किया गया। (iii) ग्लोबल वार्मिंग की वजह से बहुत सारे जलवायु परिवर्तन हुए है जैसे गर्मी के मौसम में बढ़ौतरी, ठंडी के मौसम में कमी,तापमान में वृद्धि, वायु-चक्रण के रुप में बदलाव, जेट स्ट्रीम, बिन मौसम बरसात, बर्फ की चोटियों का पिघलना, ओजोन परत में क्षरण, भयंकर तूफान, चक्रवात, बाढ़, सूखा आदि। (iv) अगर इस तरह से ग्लोबल वार्मिंग बढती रहेगी तो जो भी बर्फीले स्थान है वो पिघल कर अपना अस्तित्व खो देंगे। आजकल गर्मी और अधिक बढती जा रही है और सर्दियों में ठंड कम होती जा रही है। जब हम सर्वे को देखते हैं तो हमें पता चलता है कि पृथ्वी का तापमान धीरे-धीरे बढ़ता जा रहा है। (v) कार्बन-डाइऑक्साइड गैस के बढने की वजह से कैंसर जैसी बीमारी हो सकती है। (vi) ग्लोबल वार्मिंग की वजह से रेगिस्तान का विस्तार होने के साथ-साथ पशु-पक्षियों की कई प्रजातियाँ भी विलुप्त हो रही हैं। (vii) ग्लोबल वार्मिंग के अधिक बढने की वजह से आक्सीजन की मात्रा भी कम होती जा रही है जिसकी वजह से ओजोन परत कमजोर होती जा रही है।

ग्रीन हाउस गैसें वो गैसें होती हैं, जो पृथ्वी के वातावरण में प्रवेश कर यहाँ का तापमान बढ़ाने में कारक बनती हैं। वैज्ञानिकों के अनुसार इन गैसों का उत्सर्जन अगर इसी प्रकार चलता रहा तो 21वीं शताब्दी में पृथ्वी का तापमान 3 डिग्री से 8 डिग्री सेल्सियस तक बढ़ सकता है। अगर ऐसा हुआ तो इसके परिणाम बहुत घातक होंगे। दुनिया के कई हिस्सों में बिछी बर्फ की चादरें पिघल जाएँगी, समुद्र का जल स्तर कई फीट ऊपर तक बढ़ जाएगा। समुद्र के इस बर्ताव से दुनिया के कई हिस्से जलमग्न हो जाएँगे, भारी तबाही मचेगी। यह तबाही किसी विश्व युद्ध या किसी ‘ऐस्टेराइड’ के पृथ्वी से टकराने के बाद होने वाली तबाही से भी बढ़कर होगी। हमारे ग्रह पृथ्वी के साथ-साथ मानवीय जीवन के लिये भी यह स्थिति बहुत हानिकारक होगी।

(i) सरकारी एजेंसियों, व्यापारिक नेतृत्व, निजी क्षेत्रों और एनजीओ आदि के द्वारा, जागरुकता अभियान चलाए जाने चाहिए। जागरूकता के अभियान का काम किसी भी एक राष्ट्र के करने से नहीं होगा इस काम को हर राष्ट्र के द्वारा करना जरूरी है। (ii) ग्लोबल वार्मिंग से बहुत तरह की हानियाँ हुई हैं जिन्हें ठीक तो नहीं किया जा सकता लेकिन ग्लोबल वार्मिंग को बढने से रोका जा सकता है जिससे बर्फीले इलाकों को पिघलने से बचाया जा सके। (iii) वाहनों और उद्योगों में हानिकारक गैसों के लिए समाधान किये जाने चाहिए जिससे ग्लोबल वार्मिंग को कम किया जा सके। (iv) जो चीज़ें ओजोन परत को हानि पहुँचाती हैं उन सभी चीजों पर प्रतिबंध लगाना चाहिए। हमें कुछ उपायों के द्वारा इसे बढने से रोकना होगा। (v) जिन वाहनों से प्रदूषण होता है उन पर रोक लगानी चाहिए। जितना हो सके प्रदूषण करने वाले वहनों का कम प्रयोग करना चाहिए जिससे प्रदूषण को कम किया जा सके। (vi) घर और ऑफिस में कम-से-कम एयर-कंडीशनर का प्रयोग करना चाहिए। एयर-कंडीशनर से निकलने वाली CFC गैसें वायुमंडल को गर्म करती हैं। (vii) पेड़ों की कटाई को रोककर अधिक-से-अधिक पेड़ लगाने चाहिए। (viii) सामान्य बल्बों की जगह पर कम ऊर्जा की खपत वाले बल्बों का प्रयोग करना चाहिए। (ix) जिन वस्तुओं को नष्ट नहीं किया जा सकता हैं उन्हें रिसाइक्लिंग की सहायता से दुबारा प्रयोग में लाना चाहिए। (x) लाईटों का कम प्रयोग करना चाहिए जब आवश्यकता हो तभी लाईटों का प्रयोग करना चाहिए। बिजली के साधनों का कम-से-कम प्रयोग करना चाहिए। (xi) गर्म पानी का बहुत ही कम प्रयोग करना चाहिए। (xii) पैकिंग करने वाले प्लास्टिक के साधनों का कम प्रयोग करना चाहिए। (xiii) जितना हो सके स्वच्छ ईंधन का प्रयोग करना चाहिए। (xiv) जल संरक्षण और वायु संरक्षण के लिए प्रयास करने चाहिए। (xv) हमें वातावरण में ग्रीनहाउस गैसों का कम से कम उत्सर्जन करना चाहिए और उन जलवायु परिवर्तनों को अपनाना चाहिये जो वर्षों से होते आ रहे है। (xvi) बिजली की ऊर्जा के बजाए शुद्ध और साफ ऊर्जा के इस्तेमाल की कोशिश करनी चाहिये अथवा सौर, वायु और जियोथर्मल से उत्पन्न ऊर्जा का इस्तेमाल करना चाहिये। (xvii) तेल जलाने और कोयले के इस्तेमाल, परिवहन के साधनों, और बिजली के सामानों के स्तर को घटाने से ग्लोबल वार्मिंग के प्रभाव को घटाया जा सकता है। (xviii) जनसंख्या वृद्धि पर नियंत्रण किया जाना चाहिए।

ग्लोबल वार्मिंग की समस्या को गंभीरता से लेते हुए सभी देशों को एक-जुट हो कर कानून पारित करना चाहिए। लोगों को इसके परिणामों से अवगत करवाने के लिए सेमीनार करवाने चाहिए, ताकि सभी व्यक्ति इसके घातक परिणामों को जान सके और जागरूक हो सके। ये समस्या किसी एक की नहीं है बल्कि उन सभी की हैं जो धरती पर सांस ले रहे हैं। ग्लोबल वार्मिंग को रोकने का कोई इलाज नहीं है। इसके बारे में सिर्फ जागरूकता फैलाकर ही इससे लड़ा जा सकता है। हमें अपनी पृथ्वी को सही मायनों में ‘ग्रीन’ बनाना होगा। अपने ‘कार्बन फुटप्रिंट्स’(प्रति व्यक्ति कार्बन उत्सर्जन को मापने का पैमाना) को कम करने के लिए जनसंख्या को बढ़ने से रोकना होगा। हम अपने आस-पास के वातावरण को प्रदूषण से जितना मुक्त रखेंगे, इस पृथ्वी को बचाने में उतनी ही बड़ी भूमिका निभाएँगे।

ग्लोबल वार्मिंग मानव के द्वारा ही विकसित प्रक्रिया है क्योंकि कोई भी परिवर्तन बिना किसी चीज को छुए अपने आप नहीं होता है। यदि ग्लोबल वार्मिंग को नहीं रोका गया तो इसका भयंकर रूप हमें आगे देखने को मिलेगा, जिसमें शायद पृथ्वी का अस्तित्व ही ना रहे इसलिए हम मानवों को सामंजस्य, बुद्धि और एकता के साथ मिलकर इसके बारे में सोचना चाहिए या फिर कोई उपाय ढूँढना अनिवार्य है, क्योंकि जिस ऑक्सीजन को लेकर हमारी साँसें चलती है, इन खतरनाक गैसों की वजह से कहीं वही साँसें थमने ना लगे। इसलिए तकनीकी और आर्थिक आराम से ज्यादा अच्छा प्राकृतिक सुधार जरूरी है। ग्लोबल वार्मिंग को कम करने के लिए जितने हो सकें उतने प्रयत्न ज़रूर करने चाहिए।

वृक्षारोपण के लिए लोगों को प्रोत्साहित करना चाहिए, जिससे कार्बन-डाइऑक्साइड की मात्रा कम हो सके और प्रदूषण को कम किया जा सके।

The last few decades have been monumental when it comes to technological development. Humans have developed systems and machines that make our lives easier. Especially during the early modern period from the early 16th century to as far as the late 18the century, also commonly referred to as “The Scientific Revolution” or “The Enlightenment”, modern technology leapt ahead in development in such a short time frame compared to all of history.

However, with the development of society, there has been a severe detriment to the quality of Earth’s environment. One of the most massive threats to the condition of the planet is climate change. Inadequate research and reckless misuse of natural resources are some of the core reasons for the deteriorating condition of the planet.

To understand the concept of Global Warming and its causes and effects, we need to take an in-depth look into many factors that affect the temperature of the planet and what that means for the future of the world. Here is an objective look at the topic of Global Warming and other important related topics.

What is Climate Change?

Ever since the industrial and scientific revolution, Earth is slowly being used up for its resources. Moreover, the onset of the exponential increase in the world’s population is also very taxing on the environment.

Simply put, as the need for consumption of the population increases, both the utilisation of natural resources and the waste generated from the use of said resources have also increased massively.

One of the main results of this over the many years has become climate change. Climate change is not just the rise or fall of temperature of different areas of the world; it is also a change in the rain cycles, wind patterns, cyclone frequencies, sea levels, etc. It affects all major life groups on the planet in some way or the other.

What is Global Warming?

Global Warming is often considered an effect of Climate change. Global Warming is the rapid increase in the temperature of the Earth’s environment that is causing many life-threatening issues to arise.

Global Warming is a dangerous effect on our environment that we are facing these days. Rapid industrialization, increase in the population growth and pollution are causing a rise in Global Warming. Global Warming refers to the increase in the average temperature of the earth's surface during the last century. One of the reasons why Global Warming is dangerous is because it disturbs the overall ecology of the planet. This results in floods, famine, cyclones and other issues. There are many causes and results of this warming and is a danger for the existence of life on earth.

The sign of Global Warming is already visible with many natural phenomena happening around globally, affecting each living species.

Here is some data that can help to give a more precise understanding of the reality of Global Warming in the last few years:

On average, the world’s temperature is about 1.5°C higher than during the start of the industrial revolution in the late 1700s. That may not seem a lot to you, but that is an average estimate. This number is only increasing. Many parts of the world face far more severe changes in temperature that affect the planet’s overall health.

In 1950, the world’s CO 2 emissions were at 6 billion tonnes which had quadrupled in volume until 1990, just 40 years later to 22 billion tonnes. Not only that, unchecked CO 2 emissions today have reached a whopping 35 billion tonnes.

The most evident causes of Global Warming are industrialization, urbanization, deforestation, and sophisticated human activities. These human activities have led to an increase in the emission of Greenhouse Gases, including CO₂, Nitrous Oxide, Methane, and others.

Causes of Global Warming

A variety of reasons causes Global Warming. Some of which can be controlled personally by individuals but others are only expected to be solved by communities and the world leaders and activists at the global level.

Many scientists believe the main four reasons for Global Warming, according to recent studies, are:

Deforestation

Per capita carbon emissions

Global Warming is certainly an alarming situation, which is causing a significant impact on life existence. Extreme Global Warming is resulting in natural calamities, which is quite evident happening around. One of the reasons behind Global Warming is the extreme release of greenhouse gases stuck on the earth surface, resulting in the temperature increase.

Similarly, volcanoes are also leading to Global Warming because they spew too much CO₂ in the air. One of the significant causes behind Global Warming is the increase in the population. This increase in the population also results in air pollution. Automobiles release a lot of CO₂, which remains stuck in the earth.

This increase in the population is also leading to deforestation, which further results in Global Warming. More and more trees are being cut, increasing the concentration of CO₂.

The greenhouse is the natural process where the sunlight passes through the area, thus warming the earth's surface. The earth surface releases energy in the form of heat in the atmosphere maintaining the balance with the incoming energy. Global Warming depletes the ozone layer leading to the doom's day.

There is a clear indication that the increase in Global Warming will lead to the complete extinction of life from the earth surface.

Solution for Global Warming

Global Warming can not be blamed on individuals; however, it can be tackled and maintained from worsening starting at the individual level. Of course, industries and multinational conglomerates have higher carbon emissions levels than an average citizen. Still, activism and community effort are the only feasible ways to control the worsening state of Global Warming.

Additionally, at the state or government level, world leaders need to create concrete plans and step programmes to ensure that no further harm is being caused to the environment in general.

Although we are almost late in slowing down the Global Warming rate, it is crucial to find the right solution. From individuals to governments, everyone has to work upon a solution for Global Warming. Controlling pollution, population and use of natural resources are some of the factors to consider. Switching over to the electric and hybrid car is the best way to bring down the carbon dioxide.

As a citizen, it is best to switch over to the hybrid car and to use public transport. This will reduce pollution and congestion. Another significant contribution you can make is to minimize the use of plastic. Plastic is the primary cause of Global Warming taking years to recycle.

Deforestation is another thing to consider that will help in controlling Global Warming. Planting of more trees should be encouraged to make the environment go green.

Industrialization should be under certain norms. The building of industries should be banned in green zones affecting plants and species. Hefty penalties should be levied on such sectors contributing towards Global Warming.

Effects of Global Warming

Global Warming is a real problem that many want to prove as a hoax for their political benefit. However, as aware citizens of the world, we must make sure only the truth is presented in the media.

Various parts of the environment, both flora and fauna, are directly adversely affected by the damages caused by Global Warming. Wildlife being in danger is ultimately a serious threat to the survival of humanity as we know it and its future.

The effect of Global Warming is widely seen in this decade. Glacier retreat and arctic shrinkage are the two common phenomena seen. Glaciers are melting in a fast way. These are pure examples of climate change.

Rise in sea level is another significant effect of Global Warming. This sea-level rise is leading to floods in low-lying areas. Extreme weather conditions are witnessed in many countries. Similarly, marine life is also widely getting affected due to the increase in Global Warming. This is resulting in the death of marine species and other issues. Moreover, changes are expected in coral reefs, which are going to face the end in coming years.

These effects will take a steep rise in coming years, bringing the expansion of species to a halt. Moreover, humans too will witness the negative impact of Global Warming in the end.

Global warming will have a massive impact on our earth in the end. Flood, extreme weather conditions, famine, wildfire and many more will be the result. There will be hotter days, which will also increase the wildfire and famine. In the past years, many meteorological bureaus have added purple and magenta to the forecast.

Another impact of global warming will be rising sea levels. Increased ocean temperatures will lead to the melting of glaciers and ice caps. Increase in the sea level will lead to floods in many low-lying areas.

The overall ecosystem of nature will be an imbalance. This will affect nature in the long-term.

2. Why Does Global Warming Happen?

There are many reasons for the cause of global warming. There are certain gases in the atmosphere called greenhouse gases. The energy then radiates from the surface; the greenhouse gases trap longwave radiation. We humans have added to the atmospheric blanket of greenhouse affecting the living species. Warming of air, oceans, and land is how global warming happens.
